The novel I have been working on is about a 17 year old queen who is cheating on her 30 year old husband. Who do you think she should cheat with, and what names do you think he would have? I'm planning on the queen and her lover to have a baby, what should they name him/her?

Well to have it be a guard or a knight has been done before, as well as a visiting lord (if you've ever seen Marie Antoniette)... It might be interesting if he was a nobody.

Maybe a younger brother (of the King)? I once read a story where a young Queen was married to a 50-60ish King and had an affair with his grown son. I think they ended up getting married after he died. But your king would need to be much older.

Are you thinking of any particular style names? Super classic? Foreign? Or Invented/Sci-fi sounding names?

This caught my attention. This doesn't actually apply in royal households anymore as either a girl or a boy can take the throne. Not in Japan as they are Imperial and therefore only have male heirs.

Have you not seen the news announcement this week about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge baby getting a title i.e. Royal Highness as well as Prince/Princess and EITHER sex can take the throne.

I would discard this comment. It's sexist too.

That really depends on when the story is set. They only recently changed it so that the Duke and Duchess' child can take the throne no matter what gender. Years ago a male was the threat.

This comment is not sexist because if this story is set:

A. a loooong time ago

B. in a different land that doesn't excist or is not known to man

Then your comment would be incorrect. Not all stories are set in modern day. Though I do agree, had this been set today here in our world (not japan according to the quote above) then I also would see that as sexist. Hope this clarifies things more.

Oh... and as for names.

Actually Japan is the only country left to have male-only heirs.
