my great grandmothers full name before marraige was ruby nell mcclure.
and someone in my family is already named after my great grandfather, so i wanted to name one of my girls after my great grandmother.
but, i have a problem...
i dont know which one to use.

ruby- i dont really like it because it sounds too grandmotherly.
its like the name barbara.
i can see it on an older woman, but not on a baby.
nell- i dont like it at all.
mcclure- i actually kinda like this one.
maybe as a middle name ?

what names do you think work with the middle name mcclure :
Laiken
Katelyn
Carmynn
Olivia
Makynzie
Harleigh
Shayna
Kenndey
Cali
Emileigh
Carleigh
Addisyn
Alyson
Raegyn
Sienna
Jordyn
Skylar
Skyla
Skylie
Carter

or if theres anymore, please post them.
i really need help :/
thank you guys !

Personally, I love Ruby and I don't think it sounds old at all. But I understand it's personal taste :P

Nell it not my style either, but you could go with Nella? I've heard it on a blog lately, it's kinda cute.

I am not a fan of surnames used for a middle name, so if I had to choose McClure, I'd stretch it further and go for Mary-Claire. Or, Mae-Claire, but I realize that's a bit too strange.

Do you think it would be a total fiasco? In my opinion, it's nice and classic and also very close to your great-grandma's name.
Here are some combos from your list:

Olivia Mary-Claire
Harleigh Mary-Claire
Emileigh Mary-Claire
Addisyn Mary-Claire
Alyson Mary-Claire
Sienna Mary-Claire

WDYT?

What about Ellen, Helen or Eleanor - these names are related to the name Nell and would be honouring your great grandmother without using the name you don't like.

Emileigh Helen, Alyson Eleanor or Shayna Ellen could work.

Alternatively, what about a name ending with "nelle", such as Janelle or Chanelle?

If you have a boy, you could honour Ruby by using a name like Ruben.

I love Ruby. I think it ages well too. Older names are quite in style at the moment and I don't see Ruby as grandmotherly. I think it is cute on a baby. However if you really don't like, don't use it. You could do Scarlett in honor of your grandmother as both are 'red'.
I like Olivia Ruby or even Addison Ruby.
