My moms dads name was James, he went by Jim.
I never met him as he died from a heart attack when my mom was about 20, and I wasn't born until she was 38. But if I had been a boy, my name would have been James.
My mom really wants me to name my future hypothetical son James, she's always said that if I have a boy I should name him James because she loved her daddy so much and she didn't get a boy to give his name to.
Now I'm fine with the name James as a middle, I've had Lucas James / Luke James on my list for probably a year and it's always my go-to favorite boy name. But I recently asked her if she would mind if I just used it as a middle name and she said she'd rather it be a first.
I don't hate the name, but I just can't picture my son being James. I guess I can a little bit, and it's not a bad name but I'm just not sure.
He didn't have a middle name, so I can't use that instead.
What do you like better?
James ---? and call him James
Lucas James
James Lucas and call him Luke
?
James as a first or a middle?

I personally prefer James as a middle name (If AJ is a boy the J is for James, which will be his middle name, full being Michael James and we plan on calling him James ) but it's just as handsome as a first! Of your combo I think James Lucas is very very handsome! What about perhaps Jameson and calling him James? Just a thought

I really love the name Lucas (also the spelling Lukas ).
Lucas James gets my vote; very handsome! The flow of James Lucas seems a bit off to me...I'm thinking because James has such a soft ending and Lucas has a soft beginnging, if that makes any sense? Lol, it just doesn't roll of the tongue as well imo.

I'd stick to Lucas James If you don't adore the name then you shouldn't use it as a first! <3 I personally am big on naming your child what you intend on calling him, the whole calling a kid by the middle name doesn't honestly make sense to me. but thats a personal thing I think its sweet of you to consider using James at all, even if not as a first name! And I'm sure your mom will love it in the long run even if its not a first name <3

I like James as either a first name or a middle name. It kinda depends on the middle name or the first name that i'm pairing James with
I like the flow of James Lucas and Lucas James. I feel like they compliment each other.

James is a first name in my family but it also seems like a filler middle name to me as well. My dads name is James (and his dads and my brothers) but if I were to use it to honor my dad, I would use it as a middle name. Because I'm honestly not too fond of James as a first name myself :/
