GUYSSSS!!
I thought it was useless to open yet another topic for this, but I'm back!
I've been in Ireland for fifteen days, and I just got back home last night after a whole days sweating in airports.
I am so glad to be back home, but Ireland was magnificent. I fell seriously in love.

Anyways, I stayed in a campus & had English lessons in the morning, and activities in the afternoon.
Having interacted a lot with people, both at school, on campus and on the streets, I have heard many names, and I though what better place to post them?

Here is just a list of some names that I've heard while in Ireland, just to get back into the swing of baby names :)
If you like, tell me what you think! I thought a lot of them were quite the names!

Cora
Trisha
Fiona
Aoife
Erin
Mairčad
Colleen
Aideen
Niamh
Clare
Clodagh
Deirdre
[Maureen] EDIT: I just found the person on facebook, and realized the name is actually Muireann, not Maureen.

Brian
Oisin
Alan
Cormac
Fionn

Okay I'm going try and guess/remember the pronounciations and not cheat. :) Let me know how I do.

Aoife - Eve
Mairčad - Marie?
Aideen - like Aiden or Audine?
Niamh - Neve
Clodagh - Cloe? or Chloe? Or am I completly off track?

Oisin - Ocean
Fionn - Finn

This is one reason I'm not a big fan of using Irish/Gaelic names in english speaking countries. The pronouciations are so different from English that it just doesnt compute. And its also hard when kids are learning to read/spell and their names go against every pronounciation rule.

Hi Nadia! Welcome back! I bet it was fun in Ireland; I've always wanted to go there. :)

My Guess at Pronunciations:

Aoife - Ee-fa or Eva
Mairčad - Marie?
Aideen - Audine or how it looks?
Niamh - Neev
Clodagh - Clo-da

Oisin - Oh-sheen (I only know this because someone on here has an Oisin, lol)
Fionn - Finn?

Aoife -- EE-fa
Mairčad-- ma-reed
Aideen -- ay-deen, just how it looks. When she said her name the first time, I actually thought it was AD, like a nickname for something.
Niamh-- Neev
Clodagh-- KLO-dah
Deirdre-- DEER-druh, I think.
Muireann-- it's prn. like Maureen, but now I'm not sure.

Oisin- it's O-sheen
Fionn-- Finn.

so what do you think of the names, would you ever use some of them?
Personally, I really like Cora, Neev, and Clare, but I've come to love Aoife and Aideen. The last one especially looks quite pretty!

I also really like Cora, Niamh, and Clare, and Aideen and Clodagh are growing on me. For boys I like Oisin and Fionn.

For those I'd consider using...probably Cora, or Niamh (love it as a MN). I think they're sweet & kind of underused. Aideen is nice too, but it seems to much like "Aiden" to me, which is super-popular right now. Probably wouldn't consider some of the others that I couldn't say. :)

The only name I like is Fiona, and I absolutely adore it. I think it's so pretty and incredibly elegant. I just love it. B)
