I need help spelling my baby girl's name. My husband and I have settled on Dashiell (pronounced Dash-ul), but cannot agree on the spelling. The most commonly accepted spelling is Dashiell (like Dashiell Robert Parr from the Incredibles or author Dashiell Hammett), but there are lots of possible variations including Dashel, Dashyl, Dashiel, Dashiell, Dashielle, Dashelle, Daschle, and Daschel. When we casually poll friends there is no consensus on what seems best. Dashel and Dashyl seem to eliminate pronunciation fumbles, but is it better to stick with the more traditional spelling of Dashiell? What about feminizing it for a girl? Is it better to spell it Dashielle or Dashelle? HELP!

We also welcome input on a middle name! We are considering Rose, Raine, and Brynn. Additional suggestions are extremely welcome! Our last name is Weber and we have another daughter named Knox Peridot.

Knox Peridot & Dashelle Brynn!

Yes, I think it might be good to feminize the spelling. That way, if the name is seen on paper, the person reading is more likely to know gender (aka future teachers, interviewers, etc.). But, that's just my opinion. Good luck!
