I'm writing a story and I need a last name for my main family.  They have two kids, Vincent "Vinny" and Mara, so I need the last name to flow well with those names.  The family is Caucasian, so origin-wise, any name of European descent should be fine.  However, I don't want anything too common (e.g. Brown, Johnson, etc.), but it should still be pronounceable.  Some last names I've considered but vetoed include: Newkirk, Putnam, Nyhoff, Norfleet, Lovecraft, etc.

Any suggestions are helpful!  Also, if you'd like, I also need names for the parents.  I haven't fully fleshed out their personalities yet, but they are a bit overbearing and nervous when it comes to parenting, if that helps!  So any suggestions would suffice.  Thank you!

I suggest an Irish last name, such as Connolly, or a Polish last name, like Gorski

Here's my go-to for last names:

http://names.mongaba...on_surnames.htm

The farther you scroll down the less common the names are. There's tons to choose from. Good luck!

Also, for parent names when I write stories I tend to use this link:

http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/

And look up names by the approximate year you want the parents to be born in, that way you get generation-appropriate names and plenty to choose from.

Hope these help! They sure do me wonders when I'm looking for character names.
