I think Lane is fine. I would associate Lane for a boy and Layne for a girl.
It's actually on my list. I really ike it.

I think that Hayden Lane has too many long-A sounds, but Kellan Lane is nice. Ashley Laine/Layne isn't really my style, but it's not bad either. What middle names were you considering pairing with Ashley Laine/Layne?

Ashley Laine/Layne Marilyn
Ashley Laine/Layne Elizabeth
Ashley Laine/Layne Dahlia

Ashley Laine/Layne Jenna
Ashley Laine/Layne Melody
Ashley Laine/Layne Madison

I think Lane is cute! Though I do prefer it on a boy personally. Though Lanie is certainly an adorable nick name for a girl I like Lane Dahlia a lot, but I've also been in love with Dahlia lately so a little biased lol.

I really like Lane on a boy, though I feel like the spelling Layne has a more feminine feel. Ashley Layne, Ashley Elizabeth Layne, and Layne Dahlia are pretty, though not really my style.
