Hi, I am obsessed with the fairy tale name Gretal. Not Greta or Gretchen..... Just like the story of Hansel and Gretal.
NOBODY likes this name and everyone thinks its crazy, yet people use other character names like Ariel (Little Mermaid), Jill (Jack and Jill), Anastastia, etc....
Am I crazy, I think it's soooo cute for a little girl, it's certainly isn't any crazier than naming your baby Apple! (Gwyneth Paltrow).
Thanks for any advice.....
Obsessed with the name......

I don't think Gretal even compares to naming your baby Apple lol! Gretal is a completely normal name, even if others don't care for it. I much prefer it spelled Gretel though, I think thats technically the "correct" spelling. But names can go however the parent feels.
Don't let others disliking hold you back! I'm not a fan of any Gret- names personally, and I relate them in my mind to names like Bertha or something. Very much old fashioned. But thats not bad, its just a different taste!
I know how it feels for no one to like your names though! In real life, I'll tell someone that me and my BF like Gwendolyn, and everyone is like "Whaaat? Uhm. No." :l Its a normal name though!! And Gwen is darn cute in my opinion! Everyones entitled to not agree though

I don't think Gretal's a bad name. It's not my style, but I think it would suit a little girl nicely. I do prefer the spelling Gretel though... it looks more feminine and elegant, in my opinion.

I don't mind Gretal. Not only does it remind me of the fairy tale, but I also always think of the Sound of Music, the youngest of the children. She was such a cutie
But I also like Greta and Gretchen, so I guess I have a thing for those names.
