So I've been crushing on the name Maura for a while now. Maura, however, I feel is more likely to be pronounced as MOOR-uh, so I've been playing around with spellings. I like Mara, and I feel like it even gives a somewhat dated name a more modern spin, just by changing the spelling. But I worry that Mara might get mispronounced as MARE-uh. There's a girl at my school who spells it Marah, which may just be the spelling I'm looking for.
So what do you think? Yay or nay?
Also, while I'm here, Seren is another name I've been thinking about a lot lately. It's a Welsh name that means star, and I love the soft sound it has. I would say it SAIR-en, rhyming with Karen, but I'm not sure if that's correct. I've though about spelling it Sairen or Saren. I think it's a nice twist on the name Sarah, which I think is beautiful, but its just too common for me to really consider.
Thanks for your input!
Marah

I know a Mara pron. (MAR uh) and I wouldn't really think of it being pronounced another way. Actually I think Marah (since it is similar to Sarah) would more likely get pronounced (MARE uh)
I would pron. Seren (SAIR en) or maybe (Suh ren). I like it either way

When I see Mara I'd definitely think MAR-uh, rhyming with larva (sorry, only thing that popped to my head!) rather than MARE-uh like rhyming with Sarah. I think Marah would work as you want it to as well though! x
I'd pronounce Seren the same way you said

Love the name Maura! I've always pronounced it MAR-uh.
I've been very fond of the combo Mara Beth.

I would pronounce Maura like Laura with an M. Mara I would pronounce either "mare-uh" or "mahr-uh". Marah I would pronounce like Farrah but with an M ("mare-uh").
I would pronounce Seren the same way you do... it does seem to be an interesting twist on Sarah. I prefer Sadie though!
