I am looking for names that are fitting to my five young characters.

Isabelle Taylor and Allison Jacobs met a year before Allison decides to have a second child through surrogacy. A year later while Allison’s surrogate is pregnant, the two women start to date. At the time Isabelle has two young sons and Allison has a young daughter. They are married the year after Allison’s son is born. And a year after they decided to add another baby, to complete their new family, through Allison’s surrogate.

Allison’s surrogate is her childhood best friend, Sarah Logan. After finding out she was unable to have a child of her own she talked to Sarah. The two women put their heads together and ended up with surrogacy. At first Sarah was just going to donate eggs for Allison, but in the end she ended up being both the egg donor and surrogate.

Sarah is twenty-six weeks pregnant with the newest addition the Jacobs-Taylor when she gets a phone call from a doctor in Seattle, a colleague of Isabelle’s. Sarah is told of the car accident that had happened a few hours before.

Sarah and her boyfriend, James, make the journey cross-country. By the time they arrive Allison has succumbed to her injuries and Isabella is still in surgery. The children are mostly unharmed, with only a couple cuts from glass and some bruising. The worst injury is a broken arm that the oldest boy sustained. A few hours after Sarah and James landed they received the news that Isabelle hadn’t made it.

After the funeral James flew home, but Sarah stayed to finish some things in Seattle. It’s almost a month before Sarah and the four children fly back to Boston. James is waiting in Boston.

The story really starts when Sarah brings the kids back to Boston with her. James is happy to help her with anything he can. The three younger children adjust to their new surroundings and parental figures, but the oldest has some trouble. Sarah also has a hard time with adjusting from just being a surrogate for the newest addition to being a mom.

The story then goes on a rollercoaster ride with no end in sight just yet.

I have names picked out for the kids, but they seem so, so average and blah when I picture the kids. I just want something that screams out that they were created for the characters.

The names I have are”
- Jacob “Jake” Taylor
- Emily “Emme” Jacobs or Sophie Jacobs
- Shane “Shay” Taylor
- Riley “Rye” Jacobs
- Aidan Jacobs-Taylor

How I see the kids…

The oldest:
- He is Isabelle’s biological son
- He has blonde hair and brown eyes
- He is about 7 years old when the story begins
- His favorite outside activities are: football, soccer, playgrounds, skateboarding, camping in the back yard, and climbing trees
- His favorite inside activities are: Lego’s, cartoons, board games, video games, and reading
- If asked he couldn’t choose between superheroes and dinosaurs as his all time favorite thing in the world
- He protests at the prospect of school and “family night” beforehand, but is always fine during the actual activities

I was thinking Jacob for him, because I feel it is a well rounded boys name, but after a little while it no longer seemed to suit him. Plus whenever I say it aloud while writing or drafting one of two things happen: either one of my Twilight obsessed younger cousins freaks out about me not being apart of “Team Edward” or my Dog comes looking for food or a treat.

I would just like his name to exude that of a well rounded boy. A boy who while only 7 years old, can switch from being the young boy he is to the pre-teen he will soon be. The boy who is happy outside, inside, in school, at home. Even though he has a rough adjustment to his new life, he is still himself.

The second oldest:
- She is Allison’s daughter, Sarah’s biological daughter, and only girl
- She has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes
- She is almost 6 years old when the story begins
- She is all girl, but can easily play with boys
- She loves pink
- She has a whole collection of tutus, of all different colors
- She loves to play with her brothers, whether it’s football, soccer, climbing trees, or any other “boy” things
- She loves to play pretend, it could be in the form of tea parties, building forts, or just running around doing whatever her mind can make up
- She could color for hours
- She can easily eat as much as a teen boy
- She loves school but doesn’t like the fact that she doesn’t exactly fit with the either the girls or the boys
- She takes the transition to living with Sarah the best, as she’s known from a very young age that while Allison was her Mommy, Sarah was her bio Mom

I was thinking either Emily or Sophie for her, because I really want a name that says “girl”. I also want her name to reflect her rounded personality. A name that when placed to her it fit’s the fact that she plays football with her brothers, while wearing a tutu, or that she’d happily spend the day doing only “girl” things. She is Sarah’s daughter, she exudes all of Sarah’s best qualities, with some that she obtained from her “Father”.

Middle Child:
- He is Isabelle’s younger biological son
- He has blond hair and blue-green eyes
- He is 4 years old when the story begins
- He is very much like his older brother, except a shy version
- He’ll happily play with his siblings in the backyard, but is very hesitant to play at the playground
- He’d pick story/snuggle time with an adult over a playdate with another child
- He likes it when his older brother plays Lego’s with him
- He likes it when his sister lets him play pretend with her
- He likes that he gets to show his younger brother how to do things, and loves the prospect of having another younger brother
- He enjoys “family night” the most of the older four, because its when he feels closest to his new “family” in Boston

I was thinking Shane for him, I don’t really know why but it seemed to fit when I was drafting. I am now on the fence about the name. I’m not sure if I still like it or if I like it more. I want his name to just, fit his shy and quietness, as well as the fact that he is a shier carbon copy of his older brother.

Second Youngest Child:
- He is Allison’s second child and Sarah’s biological son
- He has dark brown hair and blue-green eyes
- He is almost 2 years old when the story begins
- He loves dinosaurs, planes, and anything any of his older siblings are doing
- His favorite time of day is when the bedtime stories are pulled out
- He can be happy in a mud puddle or rolling around the living room with James
- He carries around a soft stuffed elephant, that he calls “Airy”, because of his love of airplanes
- While he likes his new room at the new Boston house, he also likes to slip into bed with Sarah

I was thinking Riley for him, but I was never sure about it. I’d still like a unisex name for him, but I’m not sure Riley says dinosaur, plane, and elephant loving boy, who will never grow out of loving airplanes.

Youngest Child:
- He was to be Allison’s third child and is Sarah’s biological son
- He has brown hair and blue-green eyes
- He’s essentially a baby for most of the story
- He likes it when James pretends to be an airplane and “fly” him around

I wanted his name to be Aidan, but I’ve used that name so many times for the youngest boy and liked to use something different.
