What are your opinions on the name Mavis? I'm real on the fence about it. It's appealing but then it's not. I find it lovely then I don't. Wdyt?

I can see the appeal. Not a name I would ever use, but it's not a bad name either. Even now as I'm typing this I'm starting to like it more and more, little by little. I think you should put it on the list of names that you like, maybe play around with it a little bit, but it into a couple of combos. If you start to like it more, then keep it. If not, then throw it away.

I think its beautiful, with a wonderful meaning. The nickname Mae is also super cute!

I thought Mae was a cute nickname too!

Any suggestions for combos? I'm at a total loss for girl names right now. I have a handful I keep coming back to but they don't scream anything at me.

I've used this name for a character in a story, she was the main antagonist, a "bad witch".  To me this name feels somewhat devilish.

I think of the Thomas tank engine train who works in the quarry , but I do like it. The nn is super cute, and it has great potential!

thats where i originally heard it. I didn't care for it much then but with it being used in Hotel Transylvania, it's growing on me.

I really like it!i love most mae names though Mavis Riley comss to mind as I love Mabel Riley haha.

I'm not a huge fan of Mavis and would not use it myself, but I could see it growing on me if it were used for someone else's child. And the nickname Mae is really cute!

I think it's cute I wanted to name my daughter this but thinking I wasn't going to have children for a while I named my cat Mavis so now when I have my daughter I'm going to name her Ryli but I think mavis is adorable and I actually love it because I'm completely obsessed with hotel Transylvania but I liked Mavis lyn but than again lyn was a family name so hope this helped

Ironically, Lynn is the middle my husband suggested (it honors his mom)

I still haven't found a middle for it that sticks. I've stuck it on our list though. I'm having the worst time with girl names which isn't normal lol

I think Mavis is a beautiful name. Its pretty without being ultra girly, and its not a "unisex" name.

I don't want to make another thread but what do you think about Whitney and Roxanne?

I'm having so many issues with girls names. I wanna scream lol

Whitney - First thing that comes to mind is Whitney Huston. But all in all does not sound that bad. Mavis is 100 times better though.

 

Roxanne - Roxy is a cute nn for Roxanne. This name is ok, but Mavis is better. 'The Ruby Princess Runs Away' was a fave book/movie of mine when I was a kid, and one of the main characters name was Roxanne.

Mavis is definitely at the top of my list.

I kind of like Whitney and I had Roxanne on my list since I was pregnant with my 4 year old. I threw out all my previous combos and am trying to start from scratch. I just don't have anything but Mavis lol
