#251083 Baby Name Dayton

Posted by The Future Mrs B on 23 March 2014 - 07:57 AM

Urgh! NO! Think about these names and do they honestly suit a adult? Can you see a lawyer been named that? A doctor? A vet? etc

People said the same thing of Aiden/Cayden/Jaden/etc as well as all the Kayleighs and Brynlees. Some of these children will wind up as a lawyer or a doctor or a vet. The name itself has nothing to do with a child's potential unless it is something offensive/humiliating or otherwise detrimental to a child's well-being. It has to do with the child, the child's environment. Bhutterfli Reignbo is detrimental, not Dayton.
Is a child named Aiden, who's parents help him with homework, have him participate in sports and make sure he's growing up well really as bad off as the child named Luke who's parents leave him to his own devices or not give him the support he needs? The name has nothing to do with it.

#244750 Baby Girl Name Revealed

Posted by EmilyA on 06 January 2014 - 03:44 PM

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a wonderful New Years!

I've spent the past couple of days looking at baby girl's name in depth.

What really has been sparking my interest is how lovely it sounds with the boys and how right at home it feels to say.

Coincidentally, the first baby born on New Years in our county was named this and the paper put the heading as "Hey There, _______". I couldn't help but think of how precious and soft it sounded. It may have a bad rep but what name doesn't?

If you haven't guessed what the name is yet, due to the uber popular song, then here you go!

Delilah Kate

As for the middle name you ask? Kate is after Craig's grandmother, Katherine. Some double brownie points because Kate Spade is one of my favorite designers. So we kind of hit two birds with one stone in this stunning combo for our little girl.

While it may not match the pattern of a short first name and long middle name, we know that this is THE perfect name for her.

We can't wait to meet you Delilah!

#252156 How popular is too popular?

Posted by Katie-Nana on 07 April 2014 - 11:15 AM

Normally I look at the statistics to get a better idea of how popular a name is.  If a name is #243 in popularity, that doesn't really give you an idea of how popular it is.  But if that name (Fernando in 2012) was used on 0.0733% of total male births that year.  That means that there is 1 Fernando in 1,364 male births for 2012.  Not too popular in my opinion.  Really, the percentage tells you more about the name than the ranking, since male names verse female names are very different...

#100 in 2012 (Ryder - 1 in 532) and (Annabelle - 1 in 635)

#50 in 2012 (Tyler - 1 in 263)  and (Ashley - 1 in 411)

#10 in 2012 (Aiden - 1 in 136) and (Elizabeth - 1 in 200)

And of course names with multiple spellings would be even more popular.  If there were a particular name that you liked, you could look up the % for each spelling and add them together to get a better idea of how popular the name is.

Posted by Kristi18 on 29 August 2016 - 07:44 PM

I'm guessing most of you have heard Ben and Jessa Seewald are expecting their second child in February, 2017. The gender is unknown. In the announcement, Ben said they currently have no clue for a name. What suggestions would you give them?

Benjamin Michael Seewald

Jessa Lauren Seewald (nee Duggar)

Spurgeon Elliot Seewald   -   named after Charles Spurgeon (an English pastor from the 1800's) and Jim and Elisabeth Elliot (missionaries to South America)

Thoughts? I will post mine in the comments.

#290156 Ezra Amsterdam

Posted by Katie-Nana on 31 December 2015 - 12:02 PM

When I think of Amsterdam, I think of a party city with free use of marijuana and brothel lined streets.  At least that is usually how it is portrayed in the US.  However, I think if the city has particular meaning to you, it would be something very nice you could pass down to your child when you explain their namesake. Personally, it has such a strong association with the city, I think maybe finding a more subtle allusion to the city would be best.

Amsterdam comes from the word Amstelredamme which (according to wikipedia) comes from the fact that the city was originally the location of a dam on the river Amstel.  Using Amstel, the name of the river, could be a cool way to acknowledge Amsterdam.

Also according to wikipedia there are two nicknames that are used for the city, one is from a yiddish word for a safe haven, Mokum. The other appears to be a slang term, Damsko

You could also look for names with a similar meaning associated with a 'dam' : Ware, Warwick, Wotford, Worley

Or even use the name Dutch for the language of the region.

Amsterdam has a lot of different buros and points of interest, I'm sure you can come up with even more name ideas from the places you visited there.

#249484 Really?!!? That's a "name"?!

Posted by Remy Hadley on 01 March 2014 - 09:38 AM

I agree that both Valentine and Dragon feel masculine. Valentina would have felt more girly. Also, if you love MLP so much, they have other names that would be more "normal" and still obviously honoring!

Celestia (Princess Celestia)

Jack/Jackie (Applejack)

Belle (Sweetie Belle)

Brae / Braelie / etc (Braeburn)

Coco (Cocopommel, not my fave but still more legit)

Marilyn (Mayor Mare)

Sapphire (Sapphire Shores)

Soren (Soarin)

Cadance (Princess Cadance)

Luna (Princess Luna)

Joe (his names just Joe lol)

Trixie (The Great and Powerful Trixie)

Maud (Maud Pie, Pinky Pies sister! :P )

Betty (Apple Brown Betty)

Florina (Florina)

Magdalena (Magdalena)

Wensley (Wensley)

Flora (Apple Flora)

June (Red June)

Liberty / Belle (Liberty Belle)

Ace (Ace)

Ambrosia (Ambrosia)

Amira (Amira)

Bonnie (Bonnie)

Giselle (Giselle)

Millie (Millie)

Yeah. Theres more. I only knew half those off the top of my head.. but yeah. Okay, okay yeah... my friends are MLP fans :P :D But they have plenty of better options then THAT.

#205803 Corinth

Posted by PaperHeart on 26 January 2013 - 06:51 AM

All I can think of is the city in Greece (Korinthos, prn. Corinth in English).

So to me, it's not made up, but not something I would name my child.

"Cor-inth" is how I pronounce it, but I can't really see a difference between the two versions in your post.

I think Corinthia is more feminine, but it's a little too much in my personal opinion.

Have you thought of Corinne or Corinna?

It's definitely an interesting choice!

#203707 International CAF

Posted by Puppylover12397 on 31 December 2012 - 05:04 PM

Life has been pretty humdrum for me, Violet Adelaide Smith, lately. After a messy breakup, I find myself in a bit of a slump. My job is boring me, and I don't have the energy to go out with friends. One day, my best friend, Olivia Dianne Jones, approaches me and suggests I take a well-deserved vacation. After brooding it over, I agree, and buy a plane ticket to Tokyo, Japan.

I am immediately relieved. Japan is beautiful, and I have a blast unwinding. An old elderly couple owns the hotel I am staying at, and Iquickly befriend them. They introduce me to their grandson, Hayato Shinobu Itou, who helps them out around the hotel. Smitten, I begin talking to him more and more, and discover he is kind, smart, and funny... in addition to handsome!

Hayato offers to give me a tour of the city and I happily agree. After a few weeks of getting to know each other, I discover I have fallen in love with him. While taking a walk one evening, conflicted about what to do, I stumble upon Hayato, who proposes to me! I accept, and the two of us get married in the garden of the hotel you met at. After honeymooning in Greece, we decide to settle down in the country we met in, where Hayato is from in Kyoto.

I get a new job as an English Teacher and love it. Hayato gets a job as a hotel manager, to the pride of his grandparents. Elated with my new life, Hayato and I often discuss when we will have children. Hayato says he wants a large family, as an only child also wanted to have one which works out very well.

Two years after Hayato and I get married, we fall pregnant with our first child. Hayato's grandparents couldn't be more elated to know they're going to be here for the birth of their first great-grandchild. I call Olivia, as she is the only close sort-of-family, back home and she comes down for the last month of my pregnancy and the first two weeks after to stay with us and throw me a baby shower. However, it wasn't all sunshine and roses. Hayato and I disagreed a lot about naming the baby. He wanted to use names which were japanese and I had a desire to use names with a more english or french origin. However, Hayato makes a good point of how the children could be made fun of for having too different of names and I give in, on the note he let me choose the names no muss no fuss and couldn't complain no matter how silly he thought they might be. Not long after that argument ended, we welcomed our son, and first beloved child, into the world. We named him Takahiro Kitsune Itou. He is perfect and Hayato and I couldn't be more excited to be parents.

Another two years pass our little family by and things have been going well. I've been premoted as the head of the school's English Program and Hayato has also been promoted and even recieved a raise since then, with things going so well Hayato and I decide to plan our second child. After a few months of trying, we get pregnant and our thrilled. I know no matter what that the baby will be named after Hayato's grandfather, Natsu Kenta Watanabe. Who passed away earlier in the year. What Hayato and I hadn't been expecting was to have twins, but we were extreamly excited. We found out we were having faternal boy/girl twins not long after. Not much else happened. Olivia came down to stay with us again to help out with the babies, and happened to hit it off very well with Hayato's close friend Ryouichi Yamato Satou. Not long after thw twins come a half a month earlier then expected but, are thankfully healthy nonetheless. Hayato and I named them Natsumi Murasaki Itou and Kenta Ichigo Itou. They're just as perfect as Takahiro was when he was born and although they're hard work, we love our twins.

Four years go by and Hayato and I are content with our family of three adorable children. However, it would seem we were wrong on that idea. A month before Takahiro's sixith birthday, a pregnancy test comes out positive. Hayato and I are surprised but, we are still happy to have another child and we both know we can afford to have another child. Since, Natsumi and Kenta's birth Oivia has moved to Kyoto and gotten married to Ryouichi. Since then she has had a daughter, Asuka Mizuki Satou. Asuka is a year younger than Kenta and Natsumi and is good friends with them both. So, when Olivia came over with Asuka that weekened for playdate I couldn't wait to tell her about expecting another baby. It would seem she had news for me as well as we both shared news of a pregancy and were delighted to be going through our pregnancies together. For some reason I truly thought I would be having another girl and picked out a perfect name, I was honestly surprised when the scan showed a boy but, I decided I wanted to keep the name I had chosen even if it was on the more femmine side.

A week before I had my baby boy, Olivia gave birth to one of her own. She named her son Riku Tatsuya Satou. He is one of the cutest baby's I have ever seen and I know him and my son will be the best of friends growing up. Then, later that week I went through an easy labor with my baby boy, who was the smallest of all of my babies but, still healthy. I named him Misaki Usagi Itou, much to the chargin of others around me. I knew my sweet boy fit the name perfectly. After giving birth to to Misaki, Hayato and I agree that we have the perfect family!
