What do you think of the girl name Lyra? What middle names would you pair Lyra with?

It's our current top contender for the baby if he/she is a girl.

And finally,
How would you picture a little girl with this name -- looks and temperament wise?

Do you say it LEER-a or LYE-ra. I like LYE-ra better.

Isn't it the name of the girl in the Golden Compass books? I never read them myself...

I would imagine a girl with curly hair, a little fiesty, also very intelligent, and sweet when she wants to be

"LYE-ra".

As for the Golden Compass books, I've never read nor heard of them until now. I'll Google them in a minute or so to see if it's a turn-off association or not.
Thanks Rose.

I like it. I'm picturing an adventurer. She likes to imagine alot and she can be a bit mischevious. She's a sweetheart.

Lyra Genevieve maybe?

You're all describing Lyra from the Golden Compass.

(I watched it with my brothers -It had Nicole Kidman in it)

But I do imagine a little blonde girl with curly hair, fiesty but sweet and VERY intelligent and mature for her age. :P

I'm really liking how it sounds, but seeing it written reminds me of the Lira (prn. it Lee-ra), the previous Italian currency.
It has a sweet sound, though, and I like it. It also reminds me of Ilaria, pronounced ee-LAH-ree-a, which I think is beautiful.

Two things need to be said,
[1] Thanks everyone. Your input is very much appreciated.
[2] I've looked up the Golden Compass, and the association doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Now onto the combos:

Lyra Genevieve - I love Genevieve. I only like it in the first name spot though.
Lyra Monet - Monet is interesting, but just isn't my style.

Can anyone else think up some more combos?
