What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?     My given first name is Emilija S. but I've always went by Emily. Once I moved to the states I realized that Emily was very popular at that time, and still is, so it just stayed. I am from Lithuania, btw. :)

What do you think of your name?    I believe my name is amazing. Every Emily that I've met is almost the same, which does get boring for the most part. We all seem to share the same values, morals, and characteristics. Kind of like twin telepathy times 203213156132216! The sound of Emily is very sweet and nurturing. Although it is a popular name I believe it's a solid choice for a little girl that will age phenomenally.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?  If I had free reign to change my name for any reason I would most likely change it to Penelope.

What are your favorite boys' names? My favorite boys' names at the moment are as follows: Samuel, Emmett & Finn.

Why are they your favorite? All three are a blend of classic and solely vintage. Which is obviously the new trend nowadays, haven't you heard? :P

What are your favorite girls' names?    Hazel, Tallulah, & Stella.

Why are they your favorite?         Stella & Tallulah are the epitome of "hipster" monikers that I can't seem to escape from. Both are unique in their own way even though Stella is pretty well known but not overly common. I have recently picked up Hazel from a late night name rut when I was pregnant with my first child. And partially because I'm a fan of The Fault in Our Stars.

What are your dream sibling sets?      Well, I have 3 kids that are basically my 'dream' sib-set or they wouldn't be named what they are now. BUT if I had a redo I would most definitely have a Dashiell Mark & Harper Persephone.

Which trumps: meaning or flow?    Depends. Normally, the meaning will always trump flow. But sometimes it magically happens that both meaning and flow actually do flow together well!

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?    Everything including the kitchen sink! You really have to sit back and think long and hard. 9 months surely does not cover it. The most important deciding factor is either if you want your child to be another John or Isabella in a classroom filled with the only Pilot or Peaches, and vice versa? It's nice to have that median name for your child so that they won't be potentially ostracized for a name that has never seen the light of day.

When did you start loving names?   My love for names started when I was little over 7 years old when I was given my very first Ashton-Drake doll who was dubbed "Blue-Eyes" on her faux birth certificate. I finally chose to name her Lucy.

Why do you love names? Every name has a story behind it. It always intrigues me to learn of how and why it was chosen. I'm literally a modernized feminine version of Socrates.

How would you describe your naming style? Hmm. Southern with a little bit of vintage and a dash of modern.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?   Yes. For every top 10 names on the roster I always picture blue eyes and blonde hair and then everything after that with brown hair and indigo eyes. Weird, I know.

Do you keep a name list?  For the most part.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?  I always write them down on a scrap sheet of paper and end up loosing it. Then a few months later I find it and come to love it again. Most of them are online now.

Write your name list:

Delilah
Aurora
Arielle
Penelope
Luella
Gwendolyn
Tallulah
Stella
-------------------
Asher
Benjamin
Dashiell
Finn
Cyrus
Landon
Nash
Fletcher
Thaddeus

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?  Of course.

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?  Sadly, I do not.

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?  My SO has his views on my choices as do I on his. We try to compromise the best we can in order to make each other happy with decision. We mostly disagree on each other's name choices but lately he's been agreeing to most of mine and I am with his as well. It's like gravity has reversed, haha!

What are your SO's favorite names?  My SO will never let go of the names Benjamin & Olivia. So we will have to incorporate those somehow in the near future!

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?

Heidi P

What do you think of your name?

I love my name. I think my parents did well naming me. It was rather uncommon growing up and is recognized worldwide, though sometimes mispelled.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?

I have never really want to change my name, but I did combine my fist and middle name when I got married... Heidioy.

What are your favorite boys' names?

Currently, I love Aleric Charle, Roque Edsel, Dashiell Edward, Evren Charles and Rilian Scott

Why are they your favorite?

I love French names, and names that honor family. All of my choices are variations on my parents and siblings (or in-laws) with a French flair. Our last name is French, so they always match. Most of my family lives in Italy - so sometimes I get a bit sidtracked by Latin and Italian names as well.

What are your favorite girls' names?

Clarisse Bituin (our dd), Morraine Dalisay, Adelie Mayumi, Marie Noelle, Mayli Noelle, Melisande Reyna, Mirielle Nadine and Honnaly Rochelle.

I also love noun-names such as Meadow, Harmony, Minuet, Loveday, Radiance, etc. I don't find them necessarily usable... but I love them.

Why are they your favorite?

Well, all the middle names are Filipino, since DH is from the Philippines. The first names are, again, French or heavily influenced by French linguistics. They are all uncommon, rare even, but would fit into todays mainstream sounds. You might also notice that I love the letter M.

What are your dream sibling sets?

Clarisse Bituin, Roque Edsel, Aleric Charle and Morrain Dalisay (Clary, Roq, Ale and Mora)

Which trumps: meaning or flow?

Neither. The fun is in finding a balance in between the two. Even if a name flows fabulously, it can become unusable if the meaning is dreadful, but the same goes if a name sounds terrible but means something wonderful. For example, Rhiannon Keres sounds lovely and flows well, but technically means "the Great Queen of Evil Spirits"... which is NOT a title you want on your newborn. Hasan Humbert means "handsome warrior" but is not necessarily a name that everyone would love. The key is to find your particular niche. Plus, you have to remember that several names could mean the same thing. For example, our daughter is Clarisse Bituin, which means "bright star"... a friend is naming her daughter Stella Claire, which means "star bright"... same meaning, but totally different names.

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?

For me, easy of pronunciation is key, especially if you live in a small town with limited cultural influence. It would not make sense to give your child a difficult Korean name if you live in an area in which no one can say it aloud, spell it and you have no Korean heritage. Plus, make sure the name doesn't rhyme with anything that could cause teasing. Kids these days are more open to unusual names (according to the Rainbow that lives down the street from me). But, still be cognizant of the impact. Luckily I live in a multi-cultural city and have relatives all over the world - so our naming pool was bigger, but we had to be sure any name we chose could be said in different accents too. Trendiness of a name also always has an impact - you can either want a mainstream name or not, but everyone has an opinion on trends.

When did you start loving names?

When I was very young. I have a twin and we were named after two of my mother's favorite actresses: Shirley Temple inspired Heidi (me) and Audrey Hepburn inspired Holly (her). Our middles are very Christmas (when we were born): Joy and Noel,  and our last name was simply a word in Italian, where my father is from. So, the importance my mom placed on names kind of just trickled down to me. Plus, knowing a couple of different languages besides English made me far more aware of meaning and linguistics than most kids.

Why do you love names?

Why not? I mean, names have a lot to do wi th how we develop. Given a bold memorable name and a child is likely to make more friends (according to my cousin Lisa Margarita K.), gieven a name that rhymes with something not cool (like Dorcas) and a child may be haunted. Given an "uppercrust" name and a child might be judged well before he makes a good impression on a teacher or employer (such as someone named William Henry Charles III). Names shape us, so why not study what names are out there to do the shaping? Plus, it's incredibly fun to learn new things about names or discover one you have never heard. After the Nevaeh phenomenon these past couple years, I discovered Nevena, a Slavic name meaning "marigold"... and a name I find to be a much better alternative.

How would you describe your naming style?

As mentioned above, my style is mostly uncommon French names paired with traditional Filipino names or names that simply honor a loved-relative. Simple nicknames are a must though.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?

Some names have stereotypes. A lot of name-nerd websites out there include the literary crowd who join and post looking for character names. They have a character in mind, but no name to match. A tall, sandy haired football player in a 20th century American small town could reasonably be called Shane. Why? Because we can all picture it.

Do you keep a name list?

Yes. I keep an Excel file with different pages according to theme (such as "names that mean joy" or "double-letter names" etc). I also have a couple of list on different websites online.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?

See above. I always write names before they make the final cut. Carlisle is a name I love, but I always write "CL" when I begin because dd is Clarisse... so I find it a tad unusable since I am constantly erasing.

Write your name list:

It's a  bit too long to list here. I posted a couple of my faves above.

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?

Yes, some think I am strange... but most come to me excited about new names they hear. My mother especially likes to call and tell me about the "waitress named Tomasina" she met that morning. DH knows to ask about any new names I have heard or researched if I am in a bad mood (I got a good guy!).

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?

My sister likes them, but her tastes are a bit different than mind and she is not as involved in researching names. Most people I know who have the same interest I only know online.

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?

I run every name by DH. He is incredibly picky. He refuses to consider names usable IRL unless he doesn't know anyone with the name. But, he is also super helpful with names just for the sake of names and opinions. He likes less names than I do, but his tastes are very agreeable with mine. He like Melisande a lot, just like me. His nickname choices are what throw us apart. His style is far more "asian" than mine, due to his culture. For example, he would nickname a daughter Nadine as NingNing or NiNing and I would choose something like Nadi or Dina. We have to find common ground, which in the case of Nadine would be Nin.

What are your SO's favorite names?

His favorite male names are Natanael and Caspian, his favorite female names are Stefanie (it's exotic to his culture) and Tiphanie.

...and anything else you want to tell about your names!

Not really. I just encourage people to do a little research before they settle on a moniker for their little ones. I cannot tell you how many people though they were choosing an incredibly unique name and then met three other little ones with the same name. I also encourage people to be open when they hear names. You might not like it because it is foreign, but those parents may have put a lot of effort into the name. And, never, ever call a child a different name or nickname simply because you prefer it over what the parents chose. If little Penelope's parents want her to be shortened to Nelle, don't decide you like Penny better. And, if little Jaxon's parents like Jax, don't call him Jackie just because you want to. It's common courtesy.

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?
Rebecca P.

What do you think of your name?
I don't like it very much.

What are your favorite boys' names?
Currently, they are Truman, Jack, Trevor, Porter, Sawyer, Finn, and Lucas.

What are your favorite girls' names?
They seem to change pretty constantly, but right now they are Avery, Alice, Cecelia, Grace, Harper, Naomi, Riley, and Scarlett.

When did you start loving names?
Not that long ago, I don't think. Probably about a year ago.

Why do you love names?
Honestly, I have no idea why. I guess I've never really thought about it.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?
Sometimes!

Do you keep a name list?
Yes I do! Actually, I technically keep two, one for boys and one for girls. The girl list is a lot longer. The names are also separated by letter. Yes, I am organized that way.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?
They are on my iPhone.

Write your name list:
My lists are way too long to write.

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?
No. I have ever told anyone. And I don't know if I ever will.

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?
Not that I'm aware of.

I don't really have anything else to say about my names, just that I feel like my name lists are way too long and that I like too many names.

Thanks for doing this, it was sort of fun! :)

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial? (no matter what questions you answer, please answer this one. It is how you'd be identified on the blog. If you don't feel comfortable sharing this information, give a name similar to your name)
Well right now my name is Erin H. In a few months it will be Erin B.

What do you think of your name?
It took me awhile to really like my name. I had a teacher who told me that my name was really a boy's name and all of my friend's would spell it as such. In fact, my fiance was the worst offender on it. I knew him for two years before he stopped spelling it Aaron.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
I thought about going by my middle name briefly before I got into high school but six years later I realize I wouldn't change it. It just doesn't fit me.

What are your favorite boys' names?
I've had a few favorites in my life. The first was Gideon, followed by Isaiah and Isaac.

Why are they your favorite?
With Gideon I watched way to many musicals in my life. Gideon was the youngest brother in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers which my mother insisted I watched. Later I fell in love with Isaiah. After comprising some with OH we agreed on Isaac which is still our favorite.

What are your favorite girls' names?
Girls have names? Wait, what?
I haven't found a single girl name I truly like. I've had the nn Bec on my list for a few years now but no longer name to go with it.

Why are they your favorite?
Bec came from Darren Shan's Demonata series. She was a cool character and her name stuck with me.

What are your dream sibling sets?
Dream sibsets? Do I have to count OH's opinion?
Alone: Isaac Gregory, Delilah Cyrene and Elias Rigel.
With OH: Isaac Gawain, Blair Hyacinth and Marcus Lev.
Which trumps: meaning or flow?
Meaning. Without a doubt.

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?
I haven't named a real child yet but the wear-ability of the name. I love names like Arvid, Varik and Wrestling but I wouldn't give them to my child.

When did you start loving names?
I started loving names in 7th grade. My creepy history teacher made us do a project where we researched the meaning of our name and had to ask our parents why they named us what they did.

Why do you love names?
I like the history behind them and the way they're connected to other names.

How would you describe your naming style?
There's no good way to describe my style. I'm kind of everywhere on the spectrum.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?
I have a perfect vision of how "my" Isaac would look like. But the deciding factor is his middle name. That changes it a lot.
But other names. A Tyler is always annoying. Doms are a nice person but after being around them for a bit you just want them to tone down the cheeriness. Nicoles are rude.

Do you keep a name list?
I do keep a name list. I actually have several.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?
I keep my lists in an Excel file.

Write your name list:
Atlas
August
Damian
Henry
Isaac
Jasper
Jeremiah
Levi
Ronan
Sebastien
Simon
Stellan

Arabella
Avery
Blair
Charlotte
Delilah
Eva
Lenore
Lilth
Maia
Milena
Sylvia

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?
My family doesn't. Most of my friends do.

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?
Not any that live close.

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?
He agrees with some but most he vetoes. But I do the same to him.

What are your SO's favorite names?
Isaac, Blair and Lilith.

...and anything else you want to tell about your names![/quote]
Not off the top of my head.

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial? (no matter what questions you answer, please answer this one. It is how you'd be identified on the blog. If you don't feel comfortable sharing this information, give a name similar to your name)

Victoria J.

What do you think of your name?

I used to hate it. As a child I thought it was too weird and old-fashioned. I much preferred my middle name (Elizabeth) to my first name. Most my friends had names like Ashley and Jessica and Katie, and I wanted something more similar to that. I also hated all the "Victoria's Secret" references that people used to give me. My opinion started changing in high school. When I went to college, I met several other people named Victoria (and none of us went by Vicki or Tori or any other nickname). I began to realize that in some ways a classic, old-fashioned name can be better to have than a trendy name that doesn't age as well.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?

Serena. It's a family name, and I've always thought it was beautiful.

What are your favorite boys' names?

My current favorites are Caspian, Alexander, and Matthias. All time favorites are William, Isaac, Ian, Matthew, James, and Thomas.

Why are they your favorite?

I don't really know why I like these names in particular, other than I like how they sound. I have a long list of names I love.

What are your favorite girls' names?

Right now Amelia is at the top. I also love Catherine/Katherine, Leia, Cassandra, Anastasia, Elizabeth, and Samantha

Why are they your favorite?

My best friend growing up was named Kathryn, so that's probably where my love of the name came from. I also have very good friends named Anastasia and Kassandra. Leia, I have to admit, is after Princess Leia from Star Wars, which I have loved since I was six years old. Samantha was my favorite of the American Girls, and I still love the name (likewise Felicity and Kirsten).

Which trumps: meaning or flow?

I take both into account when thinking about combos, but at the end of the day I think a name should flow well. Unless the meaning of the name is something really negative or unpleasant, I would prefer that the names sound good together.

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?

Flow, initials, name meaning, and how the name would work in real life. I love the name Eowyn, but I would probably never use it because it would be hard to live with.

When did you start loving names?

Probably around fifth or sixth grade.

Why do you love names?

I think it sprang out of me being such a big history buff. I started with learning the history of my own name (like the fact I was named after three ruling Queens of England), and from there I wanted to know the history and meaning of all the names in my friends and family. The origin and meanings of names is what got me hooked. I also love names that I get from books or movies or video games. Not that these names are necessarily usable,  but I love them anyway.

How would you describe your naming style?

Pretty classic and old-fashioned, particularly for girls names. My favorites tend to be established names that have been used for a while. I hate trendy, made-up looking names.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?

I do with some names.

Do you keep a name list?

Yes!

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?

I have several scattered throughout several notebooks and Word documents. I have lists of names I like by letter, theme, and origin. I kind of go overboard with the lists sometimes...XD

Write your name list:

Yes. Every time my parents hear the name of a new baby, they tell me so I can critique it. My dad calls me a name snob.

Online, but not anyone I actually know face to face.

Annie S.

What are your favorite boys' names?
Logan, Kaden, Kyson, Karson, Matthew, Braxton, Liam, and Bryceson.

Why are they your favorite?
I don't really know why. I just think that they are amazing. Well, Logan, Braxton, and Bryceson are the names of three little boys that I know. I instantly loved those little boys and their names. And Matthew is the name of my mother's brother. She was going to use this name as a middle name, but never did. Now it's mine to use.

What are your favorite girls' names?
Isabelle, Sofia, Ryan, Kimberly, Eden, and Rylie.

Why are they your favorite?
I think that they are beautiful.

What are your dream sibling sets?
Pretty much all of my names, but used together for siblings.

Which trumps: meaning or flow?
Meaning is very important to me. I want my kids to have names that mean something to me. I want them to feel special and to know how hard I tried to find the perfect name for them. But, if a name doesn't flow, then I'm not going to use it. I would never give my child a name that doesn't sound nice. I can't pick one quality over the other. They are equally important in my mind.

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?
Must sound nice.
Must have meaning.
Both parents must be happy with the name and pick it TOGETHER.

When did you start loving names?
I've loved them since I was a little little girl picking out the names of my future children. I would never use any of those names now, but I loved them then.

Why do you love names?
Because they give my life meaning.

How would you describe your naming style?
For boys: No idea.
For Girls: Very Tom boyish names and very girly names. There is no middle ground.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?
Not really. Except I picture Logan, Braxton, and Bryceson with blond hair and blue or green eyes.

Do you keep a name list?
Yes.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?
Some in a notebook, some on my iPod.

Write your name list.
All those names I've already listed above.

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?
Sort of. They know I like picking out the names of my future children. But they don't know how truly obsessed I am.

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?
 No

 No

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial? (no matter what questions you answer, please answer this one. It is how you'd be identified on the blog. If you don't feel comfortable sharing this information, give a name similar to your name)

Korin I.

What do you think of your name?

I like it. It's unique. 'Korin' is technically just my nickname, although it suits me much better than what's on my birth certificate (Corinnette).

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?

I probably wouldn't change it, just make Korin my real name rather than a nickname. If I had to change it, I would choose Tanis. It means snake, and snakes are my favourite animals.

What are your favorite boys' names?

Emilian, Vladlen, Einar, Vasilica, Aurel, Sören, Torin, Matthias, Ilie and Eiríkur.

Why are they your favorite?

They're just great Romanian and Icelandic names that I love. I don't what it is about them, but they just flow well.

What are your favorite girls' names?

Loredana, Svanhildur, Ruxandra, Trandafira and Aldea.

Why are they your favorite?

For the same reasons as my favourite boys' names.

What are your dream sibling sets?

Emilian, Einar and Loredana.

Which trumps: meaning or flow?

Flow. It could have the most wonderful meaning, but if it doesn't flow then it kind of ruins the meaning.

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?

The versatility of the name, how common it is (so that the kid doesn't have three others with their name in their class), how 'odd' it is (so they don't get picked on for having a weird name), how it fits with the names of the rest of family ('Loredana' fits better with the parents' names 'Korin' and 'Emil' than 'Stacey' does) and staying true to the family's heritage.

When did you start loving names?

When I was maybe five or six years old.

Why do you love names?

I'm an author, so I've got so used to making names work that it's become a hobby in itself.

How would you describe your naming style?

Quite traditional. I like the names I was raised hearing.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?

Yes, especially if I've written a character with that name.

Do you keep a name list?

Yep!

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?

I've been using the same notebook for name lists since I was seven years old. I can see how much my name preferences have changed since I was a kid.

Write your name list:

Oh, that would take too long.

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?

Yes. When I was a kid, my parents used to punish me by banning me from naming websites and confiscating my name list notebook if I did something wrong.

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?

There are three of us who sit around drinking coffee, watching anime and coming up with names together. We all like arguing, so it gets quite loud sometimes!

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?

He likes similar names, especially traditional Icelandic ones (he's Icelandic).

What are your SO's favorite names?

His favourite female is Svanhildur and his favourite male is Einar.

...and anything else you want to tell about your names!

I have, on occasion, been told that the names I like are really weird and I shouldn't torture my children by giving them Romanian and Icelandic names, even though the kids are half Romanian, half Icelandic. I just ignore them. Their kids all have common names.

Rachel K. (Rae-Marie)

1. I like my nickname Rae-Marie because it is more fun and was always a way for me to make my name sound more modern.  However the older I get the more the name on my birth certificate grows on me as being a sophisticated and classic name.

2. If I could change my name I wouldn't but if I had to I would become Avery Media.

3. Boys names I like- Grayson and Benjamin

4. I like them because both offer nicknames "Gray" and "Benji" but are strong respectable names.  They sound manly without being boring.

5. Girls name I like- Meredith, Margret "Maggie", Emerson "Emma"

6. I like them because Meredith sounds clean to me, it isn't trendy and makes me think of someone respectable.  You don't have to spell out Meredith every time you are asked yet I think it is unique simply because it is fallen out of use.  Margret is a good name that I have liked for a long time because of its air or respectable authority however until recently I have not liked any other possible nicknames but I think that Maggie is cute for when Margret is too adult for her as a child.  Molly is cute as well.  Emerson was the opposite situation.  I don't like Emma as a full name and I get tired of the name Emily very easily so although my initial interest for Emerson was as a boy, when I connected it with the girlie nickname Emma I loved it for a girl.

7. My dream sibling sets are Grayson, Jackson and Benjamin.  Although many people would see it as -son ending and feel that Benjamin is left out I see it as a strong N sound with nicknames for each of them.  I also like Meredith and Margret as sisters.

8. I personally think that flow trumps meaning.  It is cool to have a name that means something but unless it is really obvious most people that are not name addicts don't notice.  However, a think that the flow of a name can grow on you if you say it enough.

9.  When naming a real child you must also consider societies perception of that name.  Something hard to spell will lead to a lifetime of correction, something too unique will get shocked reaction, but something too popular will lead to being the ninth ______ in the class.  It is about balance.

10. I started loving names when I was 10 and my cousins were born and they had really unusual names.

11. I love names because I also love words and the idea that anything can be perfectly and precisely expressed.  Names are the way that a parent expresses their love for a child for the first time.  The time and thought or a meaningful story behind a name shows that a parent cared before they even met their child.

12. I describe my naming style as little old person names because they are generally old-fashioned names (although I have some modern names mixed in) with cute or cool nicknames.  It keeps in mind that sometimes children don't appreciate classic or "Old person" names so they need a nickname that they can love.

13. I do however, I also picture many of the names as my children since I love them and I think of them as having similarities to me.

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?

Bailey S.

What do you think of your name?

It's alright. I wouldn't change it though, because I feel it suits me. I'm not overly into unisex names though. I like being named after my mother (Sarah) when it comes to my middle name.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?

I wouldn't, but if I had to, I'd do Courtney or Jenna.

What are your favorite boys' names?

Jacob (Jake), Nathaniel (Nate), Logan, Ethan, Troye, Christofer (Chris), Mason, Noah, Kyle, Spencer, Gavin, Lucas (Luke), Hunter, Ryan, Garrett, Tyler, Dashiell, Chase, Austin, Derek, Sawyer, Connor.

Why are they your favorite?

A lot of them have cute nicknames, and they all work for both a little boy and a grown man.

What are your favorite girls' names?

Lux, Gemma, Rhiannon, Brandy, Terra, Aaliyah, Cheyenne, Juliet, Giselle, Sloane, Jacqueline (Jacky), Lana, Quinn, Kelly, Madeleine (Maddie), Kendra, Marissa, Michelle, Hannah, Genesis, Jenacy, Vanessa, Keana.

Why are they your favorite?

They age well, and I think they suit beautiful women.

What are your dream sibling sets?

Kelly Quinn & Kellin Jude

Which trumps: meaning or flow?

Flow. When people hear a name, they don't hear the backstory, they just hear the name.

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?

My partner's opinion, whether it will suit them for the rest of their life or not, nicknames, whether it's too trendy at the time.

When did you start loving names?

When I had to pick out names for my daughters, but I also used to like trying to guess what people's names were before I met them "They look like a...".

Why do you love names?

I like words in general. Language, letters, sounds. I also like hearing about the meaning behind it, like is the person named after someone, something, is it a name that reflects their ethnicity, ect.

How would you describe your naming style?

My naming style is modern unusual. I like names that are somewhat unique, but not made-up. But I almost always hate traditional, common names or anything I'd see on an old person.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?

Yes. For example, I hear the name Austin, and I think of a guy with light brown hair, coloured eyes, and a tan. I can see him acting like somewhat of a punk, probably partaking in illegal activity but can also be super sweet and respectful.

Do you keep a name list?

I do, although I rarely organize it, it's constantly updated.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?

I have it in the notes on my phone, in a Google Document, and in a notebook.

Write your name list:

I have literally 200 names on my list, so I'll just put my most-recently updated top 10 on my computer.

Girls: Lux Cheyenne, Aaliyah Juliet, Terra Megan, Giselle Lana, Jacqueline Sloane (Jackie), Kelly Quinn, Madeleine Lana (Maddie), Kendra Breezy *, Marissa Michelle (Missy), Gemma Courtney.

Boys: 1. Nathaniel Troye (Nate), Austin Jacob, Cruz Dashiell, Andrew Ryan (Andy), Derek Sawyer, Micah Jesse, Christofer Logan (Chris), Ethan Carter, Kellin Jude, Garrett Hunter.

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?

My roommate does, my boyfriend kind of does, that's about it.

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?

Haha, sadly, no.

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?

Chris doesn't have an opinion, especially because we don't currently have any children together. He makes fun of my little obsession a lot. He likes Ivory's and Jade's names.

What are your SO's favorite names?

I just asked him and he said Christofer for a boy, and Christina for a girl...

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial? Samantha W

What do you think of your name?  my name isnt exactly my style but it fits me pretty well.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to? I thought about changing my name years ago, actually. Its changed a few million times over those years. I think my options were Kylie, Haley, and Sadie. I never changed my name tho. I grew to like it.

What are your dream sibling sets? This has also changed quite a bit. If i didnt have to consider my boyfriends children...my dream sib set would be: Jasmine and Nathan. But I have my boyfriends children's names to consider. Given this: maybe, Tristan and Eleanor.

Which trumps: meaning or flow? Its a combo of both, honestly. I feel like if theres a "bad" meaning it can throw off a combination. Altho i try my best to avoid "bad" meanings and associations  within my list.

When did you start loving names? I started probably 12 or 13 years ago.

Why do you love names? I've always loved knowing where a name came from, meanings etc. I

How would you describe your naming style? My naming style ranges from traditional and common to not so common.

Do you keep a name list? Yes, I do.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook? My list is kept in two places one being a Personal Name List on BtN (a website I've been using for probably 10 years). And the second being a word document on my computer.

Write your name list: I have a told of 347 names on 3 lists (boys, girls, and guilty pleasures) Due to length, I'll post the link to my PNL (mentioned above) http://www.behindthe....com/pnl/111848 (to see the other lists just click the tabs on the top)

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names? some do and some dont. My boyfriend knows as well as my mom, grandma and an aunt as well as a cousin. My mother actually use to say that my anti-drug growing up was my obsession with names.

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them? We havent really talked about names yet. Um..he has looked at and highlighted thru on my list. He's agreed to some and wants to suggest others.

What are your SO's favorite names? My boyfriend's list includes Athena, Daisy, Daphne, Delaney, Eleanor, Faith, Fallon, Hope, Peyton; Elijah, Garrett, Grant, Kieran, Maverick, Seamus, Shane, Trent, Tristan, Vincent, Xavier, Xander, Zane

I'm starting up a baby name blog (addysbabynames.blogspot.com) and want to feature some baby namers like you guys! I was wondering if you guys would be willing to do "interviews" for my blog? If you are, fill out answers to the questions below! Feel free to choose which questions to answer, you don't have to answer all of them. I'll let you know if you get featured! I'm going to try to feature people pretty often.

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial? (no matter what questions you answer, please answer this one. It is how you'd be identified on the blog. If you don't feel comfortable sharing this information, give a name similar to your name)
Alicia

What do you think of your name?
It has grown on me as I've gotten older. As a child I used to hate it because everyone pronounced it wrong and/or spelled it wrong and as a kid that gets pretty annoying. As I've grown with it I have gotten many compliments and I no love that it isn't wildly popular.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
As a child I thought about this a lot. I think I could pull of Katharine "Kate" or Esme

What are your favorite boys' names?
 William
Henry
Jason
Percy
Stephan
Elliot
Rhydian
Emrys
Harper
Why are they your favorite?
I love classic names and names that aren't strange but people don't tend to use as often. And I love foreign names which is where Rhydian and Emrys come from.

What are your favorite girls' names?
 Katharine "Kate"
Madaline "Maddy"
Esme
Caroline
Anastasia
Posy
Natalie
Elena
Michelle
Cecilia
Why are they your favorite?
Again I love classic names that are feminine and flowy. While some of these are somewhat popular I don't particularly pay attention to popularity, I tend to stand by names that I really love.
What are your dream sibling sets?
Katharine Grace "Kate" and Jason Elliot
Madaline Jane "Maddy" and Rhydian Emrys
Esme Carolyn and Stephan James
Elena Michelle and William Henry

Which trumps: meaning or flow?
I can't have one over the other, I don't think I could ever pick a name if it didn't have meaning or flow. One of my top girl's names, Elena Michelle, honors two family members. Elena means light and Michelle means "in the image of God". I love the flow of the two names together and that when combined my little girl's name could mean "light of God".

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?
Love of the name, flow, meaning, and sometimes origin. All of them play a huge role in naming children. Another that people often don't pay attention to is teasing factor, that is why it is a good idea to get many opinions on a name before choosing. Liking a name can blind people to qualities of the name that their child might have to deal with that someone else might pick out. Other big factors are spelling and pronunciation. My name has three correct pronunciations and I get called all of them, spelling should also be considered. If you decide to name your daughter Allison is she going to be Allison, Alison, Alyson, Allyson, Allisyn, Allisen or Alicen? Is this a name you are going to love saying to your child for the rest of his or her life? Or is it just a name you love at the moment and you'll be tired of saying it in a month. This is huge and is one of the biggest reasons I advise that you start your name list very early so you have time to consider this. The last factor to think about is naming future children. Just like a first and middle name for one child need to flow you want siblings names to flow or at least they need to be easy to say consecutively when you're calling them in for dinner.
When did you start loving names?
I think it started in elementary school when we had a project to find out the origin of our name and what it meant. Instead of just doing my name I looked up everyone in my class!

Why do you love names?
Everyone's name has a story, a meaning, and a reason as to why they have that name. Names, just like words, are created all the time so every name is unique. I think there is something so very special in that and that is why it is never to soon to think about naming children, it's a process that requires a lot of thought.
How would you describe your naming style?
Classic and honoring. I love "old fashioned" names like Nancy, Helen, and Christine I also love names from my family tree or names that represent where my family comes from.
With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?
I think everyone has certain perceptions of names especially if they've known someone with that name that they have had a particularly good or bad experience with. So yes I do have images that come to mind with certain names, I don't necessarily know how they would act but I get certain feelings from different names and I guess I could contribute that to a personality.
Do you keep a name list?
I keep a name book or journal. It's just a composition book and I write my lists in it monthly because even though there are names that stay on every list and never change, others do. My naming style has changed dramatically since I first started logging names but the ones that usually stay are the classics.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?
Composition notebook. Sorry, jumped the gun on that one!
Write your name list:
Katharine Grace
Madaline Jane
Elena Michelle
Esme Carolyn
Tia Margaret

Jason Elliot
Harper Allen
William Henry
Rhydian Emrys
Christopher Mason

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?
Yes! For Christmas one year I looked up the meaning of everyone's first and middle name, made a little wall art of it and included what the meaning of their name said about them as a person. They all loved it and thought it was such a great and creative idea! My family always ask me what names are on my radar at certain times and sometimes they tease me about it (family, what are you going to do with them!) and I am the go to for helping name pets and little cousins and friends children!
Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?
No, that's why I turned to helping people on Baby Name Genie, Nameberry, and Behind The Name!

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?

What are your SO's favorite names?

...and anything else you want to tell about your names!

Just some advice about naming...If there is a name that you just can't let go of, not matter what family or friends say about it you need to use it. You will regret not using it in the long run and when your friends and family meet your little one they will see how well it fits and they'll forget all the negatives they had about it. Your child, your name choice. Also, don't doubt that your spouse will not like a name you love without asking. I would have a totally different name if my mom had simply asked my dad if he liked a name sooner, but there were no regrets there because that name suits my sister better than it would have suited me!

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?

Cynthia

What do you think of your name?

I love it! It's not outrageously exotic, nor hard to pronounce and plus I am the only Cynthia in school (for now).  I love not having to be the person who says, " Which one?" when the teacher calls someone, or having to turn my head whenever I hear my name and not be the one that was being summoned. The only thing i kind of dislike is when they call me Cindy. Uh, no. That is my cousin's name and all i think of is Cindy Lou with her crazy pigtails. I am Cynthia, and i have always liked going by first name.

What are your favorite boys' names?

August, Anthony, Gabriel, Israel, Thomas, and Ezra.

What are your favorite girls' names?

Catalina, Verona, Grace, Hazel, and Dakota.

Why are they your favorite?

Soo Handsome/beautiful! Plus, just like my name they are unique and not too common yet not outrageous. But one rule for me would be: I would call them by their full name. I am not an advocate for nicknames, and feel that if you give them a  name then call them by their name.

What are your dream sibling sets?

Israel Gavin & Verona Grace, Anthony Elias &  Catalina Ariel

Which trumps: meaning or flow?

flow. But in my sibling sets above, I was able to incorporate both!

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?

Husband's view

(it's their child,too),

initials/surname

(do not set them up for embarrassment, and FLOW),

family names

(do not repeat unless honoring a member),

family

[in my case, my family is of hispanic descent and some names to not sound good in a spanish dialect. My sister named her daughter Jaleah, which means lam in spanish.oops)

Future

(make sure it's something you will like in the furutre, do not pick it just because it is trendy, but because you truly love the name)

When did you start loving names?

I have always thought about names since I was a little girl. But I never realized how much I actually liked names until I began to write. I loved writing fiction, and it took me longer to come up with names for my character than to write my story. That's when I knew it was serious naming love.

Why do you love names?

It is a source of identity, and when letters are arranged into someone, the meaning is great, and it is the one thing that sticks to a person their whole life (even if they are double agents with two different names, It is interesting to know why they chose those two names).

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?

Of course, and experience plays a huge role. For instance the name,

Do you keep a name list?

Yes, in my head most of the time but also in my dreams notebook. I keep my future goals, achievements, and dreams all allotted in there.

Write your name list:

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?

My mother. Especially my mother.

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?

Victoria M

What do you think of your name?

It's pretty, and I actually like it a lot. I like that it means victory, and I sometimes have a soft spot for other names that mean the same thing.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?

I wouldn't change it to anything...if I had to, maybe Vanessa or something like that.

What are your favorite boys' names?

I have too many! But at the top of my list I'd say Jeffrey, Nathan, William, Jude, Beau, David, Edward, and Mathias.

Why are they your favorite?

Jeffrey - Ever since I was a little kid I liked it. The world needs more Jeffs, okay? It's a cool nickname.

Nathan - A kid named this went to preschool and later elementary with me; I also thought that it was cool. I used to like it more on its own, but I've lately come

William - Heard the nickname "Will" while my parents were watching a movie. Thought it was interesting. And William, while I didn't originally like it, is a nice name to me now. Even though it's in the top 10, most people probably go for the nickname Liam (which I also like but it's in the top 10 as well.)

Jude - Na, na na, na na na, na! Na na na, na! Hey, Jude! (Also a cool-sounding name.)

Beau - Game I played where one of the characters was named this, thought it was a nice name since.

David - I don't know, I just like it. (Ignore the fact that the 10th Doctor is my avatar.)

Edward - Edd Gould, he's famous for Eddsworld on YouTube. Modest sounding name.

Mathias - Matthew, while I still like the name, is too common; believe me, I've met wayyy too many Matthews. Matteo is nice too, but if I were to choose which is best I'd go for Mathias. It's different, and I guess that's why I like it.

What are your favorite girls' names?

Anne, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Francesca, Vanessa, Natasha, Beatrice, Laura

Why are they your favorite?

Anne - My middle name, my mom's middle name and my great-grandmother's name. Overused as a middle name, but I still think it's pretty used as a first name. Still debating whether a good choice would be Anne Victoria or Anne Maria (probably Anne Maria as it was my mom's name).

Elizabeth - Top 10. But it's a modest name, it could work for anyone and it ages well.

Eleanor - Always liked it. Reminds me of a little girl who's lovable and adorable.

Francesca - It's pretty. (I have a thing for Italian names.)

Vanessa - It's similar to Victoria, and cool sounding - it reminds me of a tomboy, or someone quiet who reads a lot.

Natasha - Staring, at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window; Natasha Bedingfield. I'm also fond of Natalie. Maybe because Natasha and Natalie sound like Nathan. I also know maybe at least two singers with the name Natalie.

Beatrice - Not much to say here, I just like it.

Laura - Lauren is a bit popular, there are two Laurens in my class. It's a nice name, but I think I prefer Laura.

(Boy names come easier to me than girl names do)

What are your dream sibling sets?

Jeffrey and Anne, my two favorite names. Nicknamed Jeff and Annie.

Nathan and Edward has sort of a ring to it; Nate and Edd.

Elizabeth and Eleanor, even though I usually don't like matchy names I just think these go nice together on twin girls; Beth and Helen.

Which trumps: meaning or flow?

Definitely flow. Some names have bad meanings and some don't have any meaning at all. Mary means sea of bitterness, for crying out loud.

What factors come in to play when naming a real child?

Usually when they have some sort of meaning as to why you chose it other than you liked the name. Like, choose the name Ireland because you're Irish or something. Yet people still name their kids just because they like the name. My brother was named just because my parents liked it, for example. I was sort of named because my parents liked the name, but I was also named after the street my mom grew up on, and my middle name was almost Lane if my mom hadn't liked it (thank God).

When did you start loving names?

I don't know, I think I always have. But the Sims definitely plays a major role, as does writing, since I have to name all my characters. Or if I hear a name I like from somewhere and I decide I like it - that also plays a part.

Why do you love names?

No idea. It's an odd habit, since I won't have to name an actual kid for a very long time. And Sims and writing and such, since naming someone a name everyone has can only go so far.

How would you describe your naming style?

A mix of old-fashioned, unique, modest, common, cool, or classic names. Usually spelled right, but I spell Alan like Allen since it's a family name, and for awhile I spelled Jeffrey like Jeffery until I decided I liked Jeffrey better.

With certain names, do you have images in your head of exactly how they'd look or act?

Sometimes. Jeff is a cool guy. Anne is a sweet girl. Toby's a chubby little boy. Etc.

Do you keep a name list?

Yep, and it's growing more and more by the minute.

Do your friends/family know about your obsession with names?

Maybe. I keep asking my dad for opinions on names.

Do you have any friends who love names as much as you do?

Not that I know of.

If you have an SO, what do they think of your name choices? Do they tend to agree/disagree with them?

At the moment I'm single, so I'm going to go from what my ex-boyfriend thinks. He also likes the name Edward, he told me once it had a nice ring to his last name (which it does). I never told him a lot of my choices, but he agrees with some, like William, Anne, and Maria anyway.

What are your SO's favorite names?

Well, he wants his future kids to be named (insert his first name here) Jr., William, and Sarah. And when we were dating, Maria. He also likes Edward, and I assumed he had a thing for Lyle, Lloyd and Floyd as well (since he kept naming his characters those).

...and anything else you want to tell about your names!

Baby name websites are awesome! Sometimes they're unreliable, but I get many of my names from forums or Behind the Name or whatever.

What is your first name, and, if you have a common name, last initial?

Grace B.

What do you think of your name?

I love it! It has never been too common which I like, and the meaning and symbolism of it are special to me also.

If you could change your name, what would you change it to?

I don't believe I ever would, although being a budding author, I might give myself a pen name... Cessie maybe?

What are your favorite boys' names?

Toby Benjamin (Levi)
Asa Lincoln (Nash)
Jackson Theodore (Flynn)
Derek Harper (?)

(names in parentheses represent the second middle I would use if I chose to use double middles for my kids)

Why are they your favorite?

TOBY- All three are Biblical and charming, and Toby is also the name of one of my fav. singers (Tobymac)
ASA- the first is Biblical and soooo adorable! Lincoln is presidential, and Nash is an awesome southern sounding addition :)
JACKSON- I have just always loved Jackson and picture him a little towe headed cowboy (after all, I am a towe headed cowgirl at heart!); and Theodore is a reference to one of my fav. literary characters (Teddy/Lauri from Little Women) and is presidential also. Flynn is just fun and super cute.
DEREK- it is just handsome and sounds soooo nice with Harper <3

What are your favorite girls' names?

Felicity (Asha) Mae
Faith Elina (Willow)
Piper (Annika) Joy
Hope (Eva) Skye

Why are they your favorite?

FELICITY- "Lil' Lissy" :) Asha is beautiful and means hope and Mae is darling!
FAITH- would have been my brother's name if he was a girl, always a love... Elina I heard in a movie and have loved since... Willow is just soft and sweet!
PIPER- a nice lively addition... Love it with Joy, and Annika is very pretty and has a beautiful meaning!
HOPE- another virtue name yet sweet, especially with Skye making it heavenly.

What are your dream sibling sets?

biological:
Toby, Felicity, Asa, Piper, & Jackson
Toby, "Lissy", "Ace", Piper, "Jax"

adopted:
 Journey (g), Trek (B), Quest(B), Promise (g), & Truth (B)

Which trumps: meaning or flow?

Definitely meaning! I have special definitions for all of my girl names, and as I mentioned, my boys' names have personal meaning and significance.

When did you start loving names?

For as long as I can remember. My faves used to be Stacey and Stephanie for girls :)

Why do you love names?

It is just another way for me to be creative!

How would you describe your naming style?

Sweet, virture/biblical, and fun ;)

Do you keep a name list?

Absolutely! I have gone through many over the years, but I always keep the old ones in case I want to look back or need some inspiration.

Is it online, or do you put it in a notebook?

Mine is on paper, and I keep it in my journal.
