I've recently become obsessed (slightly) with the name Harriet. I don't know why- my brother's name is Harry, and that should be enough to put me off- but I really love it. Do you think it's too dated? Is it better as a middle name?

Thanks!

AHHH MY GOSH!!! I am MADLY in love with Harriet  My daughters name would be Harriet, nick name Hattie, if Mike didn't have a say in names ^_^ Unfortunately he does, so I wont. But still <3 It is dated, pretty old lady like. But for me, thats the appeal. I love old lady names hehe. It could work nicely as a middle name, though I love it as a first :)

I've known a few Harriets growing up, so to me the name doesn't have that old lady feel. I like it, and could picture it being adorable on someone else's child. As for the Harry issue, if it were me I'd call her Etta as a nickname, or even Ari, and Hattie is adorable as Remy mentioned :) I think if you like it as a first name then go for it, although if you see an issue with your brother being a Harry then stick it in the middle spot.

I only really started liking it when I met the sib-set of Isobel and Harriet, which I love <3

I would love to use Harriet as a first name, but I'm not sure about the whole 'naming after my brother' thing... Is it too weird?

If so, I'd probably go and put Elena Harriet on my list instead of Harriet Elena :)

I never liked it all that much (it seemed too old fashioned) but then I met a little girl at the centre I work at, and it really suits her, so I really like it now!

It's really pretty.

As Remy said, Harriet is a wonderful name for a girl. It's not that dated, but it is kind of an old lady name (not going against it). Of course she will eventually be an old lady. I also think the same thing with Sherry. It is very beautiful and an old lady name.
