My sister and her daughter came up to help me this week, so we sat down to talk last night. My niece was telling me about how her new job is going. During the school year, she was working as a teacher's assistant. There was a girl in her class and her name was pronounced Absidy. When she asked te girl how it was spelled she said"A-B-C-D-E" so my niece asked the teacher about it. Her parents came to the US from..i dont remember where, but the only letters that they knew were a b c d and e, so they were very smart about it and pronounced it Absidy as a name for their daughter. I thought it was interesting.

my aunt taught in a predominantly hispanic school and she got a few interesting names:

Female (prn feh-MALL-ee) the poor mum didn't speak much english and saw the card on the crib in the hospital (FEMALE + last name) and thought they had named the baby for her so she kept the name and prn it how she thought it should be

Twin girls named: Orangejello (ORANGE-ello) and Lemonjello (leh-MONJ--ello). poor mum saw these names at the supermarket and thought they'd make nice names...
