Another successful stop on your book tour was made even more enjoyable by a visit with your friend, Natalia, and her lovely family. She claimed that the family house was peaceful now that most of her children are married… but you seriously doubt she understands what “peaceful” really means. Between an over-eager Mary asking you questions about your trip, discussing your impending voyage to France with your hosts, and trying not to run into any of their many exuberant grandchildren you didn’t have much opportunity for peace and quiet. Not that you regret your visit – the Beck house is one of your favorite spots on earth.

However, right now you are headed away from Manhattan and towards the ports of Francefor the final stretch of your book tour. You’ve brought your self-proclaimed “biggest fan” Mary along for the trip. Her mother hopes that seeing a bit of the world will calm her down a bit. You have your doubts – she’s currently jumping about your cabin’s sitting room telling you all about the costume she’s wearing to the costume party tonight. Daniel James Robison, a young man who just graduated from Marist university, has kindly asked to accompany her. He’s such a nice boy, and so patient with her thirteen-year old chatter. He’s on vacation before taking a position as a tutor for some New York bigwig’s son – he’ll need that patience!

She’s over moon, though. It’s so fun to watch her.

Another successful stop on your book tour was made even more enjoyable by a visit with your friend, Eliza, and her lovely family. She claimed that the family house was peaceful now that most of her children are married...but you seriously doubt she understands what "peaceful" really means. Between an over-eager Eve asking you questions about your trip, discussing your impending voyage to The Netherlands with your hosts, and trying not to run into any of their many exuberant grandchildren, you didn't have much opportunity for peace and quiet. Not that you regret your visit -- the Cook house is one of your favorite spots on Earth.

However, right now you are headed away from Manhattan and towards the ports of The Netherlands for the final stretch of your book tour. You've brought your self-proclaimed "biggest fan" (a.k.a. Eve) along for the trip. Her mother hopes that seeing a bit of the world will calm her down a bit. You have your doubts -- she's currently jumping about your cabin's sitting room telling you all about the costume she's wearing to the costume party tonight. Winston Claude Hollingsworth, a young man who just graduated from Berkeley University, has kindly asked to accompany her. He's such a nice boy, and so patient with her thirteen-year old chatter. He's on vacation before taking a position as a tutor for some New York bigwig's son -- he'll need that patience!

She's over moon, though. It's so fun to watch her.
