Name: Johnny
Location: Iowa

My wife wants to name our soon-to-be baby boy "Ivan." I think it is too unusual for someone with no Russian ancestry.

I don't think so at all :) I really like Ivan, and don't connect it to Russia at all :)

Ivan is a great name, I don't think most people in US associate it with Russia, anyway.

Love the name Ivan! It's popularity is on the rise in the U.S. so no need to worry about it sounding too Russian.

Congrats, XOXO.

I have a cousin named Ivan and he is Italian, lives in a small town on the Sicilian coast. Safe to say he is not Russian and the name suits him just fine.

It also really depends on how you want to pronounce the name Ivan.... ee-vahn is far more Russian than eye-van. Both will work in the US, UK or another English-speaking country, though eye-van is a more common way to say it there.

I say go for it - great choice!

I think it's a fabulous choice. It's very integrated with other name choices so the Russian-ness of the name seems to fade. :)

It's easy to pronounce, and it's not necessarily Russian. It's not so common either:)
