Okay, I was wondering what people think of these. They keep floating on and off my top 10 list, so I figured it was time to get some opinions.

Sylvie -

1. Is it better to just use Sylvia with Sylvie as a nn?
2. Is it enough of a name to stand on its own?

Edith -

1. Is it too harsh sounding for a modern kid? I really like the nn "Edie (Ee-dee)," but don't feel like it is enough of a name in its own right.

Also, how do y'all think they fit with the names in the sig?

I'm just in this naming funk. I've been going through my lists, crossing out names I know I'd never actually use, crossing out names I like... but feel like they're too cutesy and not strong enough for the adult a potential kid would become. It has been very frustrating. :'(
Thanks in advance :)

Sylvie -
Is it weird that I like Sylvie but not Sylvia? I would just use Sylvie if it was me. I think its really cute but enough to be able to stand on its own.

Edith -
I can't help but love this name. I think its sounds cool. I have a feeling a lot of people won't like it though if that bothers you. I don't think Edie can really stand by itself. More of a nickname to me.

Sylvie can stand on it's own. I like it better than Sylvia actually. And my youngest SIL is Edith nn "Edie". Everyone says that it's an old person's name and while it's definitely not my favorite name ever it fits her well. She's a little red headed ball of trouble.

I love Edith :) I do prefer Eden, but It is still a pretty name.

Sylvie is not my style

I think Edie has plenty of stand alone power. It used to be my top name for a girl.

I also think Sylvie makes a great name whether you use it as a nickname for Sylvia or as a stand alone first name.

If you arent' too sure about Edith, you could look into other names that would give you the nn Edie. While I'm not a huge fan of Edith, I find the alternate spelling Edythe to be a bit more modern despite it being a rather old spelling and not a new made up version. I also like Eda, Eden, Edeline, Edis ... I'm sure there were other's that I came across when I was looking up full names for Edie but I can't think of any more at the moment.

Aww I love both names!!

Sylvie is precious, and I think it'd be fine on its own. Just like Sophie to me. I feel like Sylvies also pretty established as a singular name like Molly is. If you intend on calling her Sylvie like always, I'd just use Sylvie. Its just one sound off <3

Edith does have harsher consonants, but I wouldn't say its a harsh name as a whole <3 Ahh I have Edie on my list as well! Though deriving from Eden, as my partner doesn't like Edith. To be honest, though I'd never prefer to use Edie on its own, I do think it could pull its own :) It doesn't sound too little girlish. But I do love Edith "Edie" anyway :)

I can most definitely see adults through both of them. I know a grandmother named Sylvie, suits her perfect in her elder age. And I can so imagine her being young!

Thanks everyone :)

I feel like Sylvie is going to end up staying on my "top 10" list. I really feel like it goes well with my other tried & true girl names (Tabatha & Luna.) I'm still on the fence about Edith, but it is nice to know there are kids named that out there.

I keep on going through my girl names and trying to imagine them on a college diploma or being said in wedding vows. Boy names are so much easier for me, lol.

I love Sylvie and Edith. Edie can work by itself but be used as stand alone as well.

I love Sylvie, though!!

I have to agree with the previous posters... I much prefer Sylvie to Sylvia! Sylvia sounds a bit stuffy and antiquated to me, but Sylvie seems fresh and pleasant.

I too love the nickname Edie, but Edith seems a bit clunky in my opinion. Have you considered Eden or Veda (vee-duh)? I also really like the nickname Evie, which can be short for Evelyn, Eva, Eve, Evangeline, Evita, Genevieve, etc.

The main site for BNG has a "Baby Name Test Drive" thats fun to go through :) Tests the aging of names through circumstances like marriage, receiving school awards, yelling about swiped cookies... lol :P I'm the same though, boys come way easier than girls!

Aw, Tabitha, Luna, and Sylvie... Aww <3 I think Edie and Luna would make a perfect sib set, but Edith and Luna is a tad different in style and all.

Evie is very much on my list already - I love Evelyn (annoyed at how popular it's getting though :( ), Eva & Genevieve.

I'd never noticed the test drive part of BNG... I'm a bad member, lol. I'll have to try it out.
