I've been looking at names for a long time and I know the sort of names that my partner and I both love and agree on, unfortunately they all sound awful with our surname Morton. There's lots of boy names that end in -n (Nathan, Holden, Rowan, Sampson, Evan) and for a girl would love Miriam, which sounds so bad with Morton we've had to rule it out completely.

My question that I'd like your help with for my first poll is: would any of you settle for a full name that doesn't flow overall because you love an individual name so much and can't find anything that compares to it?

We have agreed on using family middle names (Catelyn Eloise or Eloise Catelyn for a girl, unsure yet for a boy) but have definitely hit a wall with first names. Thanks :) Your advice is appreciated.

Honestly, if you truly love a name, I think its worth using it - even if it doesn't flow :) As long as it doesn't cause teasing potential (Ophelia Cock or Annie Sarah Stevens sort ;) ) then go for it!

With the style that you've posted for boys.. it seems you like a lot of surname-esque sorts? I love a few of the ones you posted to like, I ended up using Archer which also has a surname feel but different ending. Others could be Hunter, Rory, Bailey, Blair, Harper, Riley, Taylor, Cooper, Carter, Finley, Parker, Porter, Grey, Jack, Brooks, Bryant, Gilby, Grady, Delaney, Channing, Lennox, Jonah, Marley, Kennedy, Sawyer, Winslet, Wiley, or Walker?

Miriam is lovely, and Miriam Morton isn't the worst I've heard ;) I'd go for it. Miriam Catelyn Eloise sounds gorgeous!

In response to your question, the "flow" of a name is a big selling point for me, so I would probably refrain from naming my kid Miriam Morton or Nathan Morton, even if I really loved the names.

I love Eloise Catelyn Morton though!  Even though Catelyn and Morton both have the "n" ending, Eloise Morton sounds lovely.  I think the name Eloise is darling for a little girl - plus, it ages well.

Here are some boy names I think compliment your naming style and sound good with Morton:

Henry

Oliver

Noah

Jack

Eli

Riley

Caleb

Isaac

Alexander

Daniel

Leo

Nathaniel

Andrew

Patrick

Levi

Luke

Joseph

Archer

Finn

Flynn

Ross

Nicholas

Hope this helps!

In all honesty, I don't think names ending in n sound terrible with your surname; if you love them enough it'll work. My SO and I have the same problem; his surname starts and ends in n, and I love a lot of boys names ending in n, but we love the name Brogan and don't mind that it's a bit choppy with the surname.

I don't think they sound all that bad with your surname. If you are truly in love with the name Miriam, use it! You may end up regretting it :)

I think Miriam Morton works, as well as a lot of names that end in N, like Nathan Morton and Rowan Morton.

I agree with Remy. :)
