So, I was just sitting here on the site listening to some Taking Back Sunday when the song I Am Fred Astaire came on. That got me thinking that Astaire might be a very good name. I actually think it carries the ability to be handsome for a boy, but also beautiful for a girl, though I'm leaning more towards it being female because of a similar sounding name I like (Astoria). But it's also quite masculine to me, given the fact that it does stem from Fred Astaire. I like the sound of Astaire Isabella for a girl and Astaire Benjamin for a boy. What do you guys think of it? Boy or girl? Have any combinations that you like?

It's nice but I don't think it's really my cup of tea. I don't really see it on a girl, unless it has a sort of double name, like Rose-Astaire or its her last name that she is alway sreferred to by. I can see the class and elegance of it, but I almost see it more of a wealthy person in a movie about the past or something. I prefer Astoria, i think it is more suitable but has the same class and elegance. As for a boy, I like it more, but I think i like Alastair better still. Not sure why, but it isn't the most masculine name for me either. I'm so undecided I guess, maybe it will grow on me but I just don't think it's a name i love. Maybe for a middle name it wo uld sound great though.

I'm not sure I like Astair in the first place but I would prefer it be on a boy. Astair Benjamin is not bad but as Smile said it not my cup of tea. :P

I like it as a middle name to work for either a boy or a girl. Alastaire seems a little more fitting for a first name.

Astaire isn't my style. I like it better on a boy then on a girl. To me it has a masculine sound.

I definitely think Astaire is a boy's name. Astoria, although similar to Astaire, sounds more feminine because of the popular "ia" ending, which is used throughout many languages to denote female names. Astaire on the other hand, is more probable to be a male name, as it is a surname, and surnames are often used as male names: Ashley, Whitney, Tyler, Jackson, etc.

I think Sinatra would make a snazzy girly name. :)
