My husband is playing God of War 3 and it makes me think about Greek mythology. One of the myths I've always loved is that of Hades and Persephone. And I believe the name Persephone is actually very pretty with a nickname of Seph. But, I always wondered if I could actually use it to name a child. It would be very unique. I don't know anyone named Persephone. But would it be subjected to ridicule? Does it age well? Will they not like their name? Opinions are appreciated.

I could see using Persephone (without the nickname Seph, but that's just personal taste).

Persephone subjected to ridicule, with Sparkle'Lynn, Princess, McKaylee, etc. floating about? Someone might comment about it, but there's way more ridiculous names to mock. As to aging well, I think it might be a big name on a child, but would work well as an adult. About like Penelope.

I absolutely LOVE the name Persephone, but I don't know if I'd have the guts to actually use it. If I were to meet someone named Persephone, I would think very highly of her parents, though. It's a lovely name, and as Phoenix said, it ages very well. As too whether a child would like having the name or not, I honestly think that she may not be crazy about it around middle school when everybody wants to fit in, but she will probably grow to appreciate it a lot more as she gets older. Btw, I think Persephone is lovely by itself, without any NNs. Seph reminds me too much of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy...

Seph remind me of Sephiroth too! But I heard it somewhere as a nickname for Persephone. And I could think of some middle names at the top of my head. Just a simple, classy middle name to do with a long, unique first.

Persephone Rose
Persephone Grace
Persephone Hope

I think it's usable. It really isn't that different from names like Penelope or Josephine. Plus, she can always go by Seph (or Effie, Penny, etc) if she finds the name to heavy.

My favourite combo is Persephone Jane. I think the names compliment each other perfectly. Rose, Hope, Anne, Claire, or Emma would be very nice as well.

Persephone is on my list, too! Not my short one, but still. It is one of my favorite myth names... very imposing, but beautiful. Definitely have to have a fairly simple/short middle and last name though. I think I prefer it to Penelope - which always reminds me of fruit for some reason. Persephone is definitely nice.

^ditto Persephone Jane, it is perfect.

Good luck!

It's a closet favorite of mine. I think it has major appeal. Persephone is young and fresh that can age well. Seph as a nickname fits right in with the "Stephs" (Stephanie) or "Sophies" from today.

I love, love, love Persephone Jane.

Here are some other combos I thought of:

Persephone Mae
Persephone Renee
Persephone Viola
Persephone Cora
Persephone Eve
Persephone Kate/Cate
Persephone Faith
Persephone Adele
Persephone Lucia
Persephone Belle

Persephone is the one of the Gods of the underworld, so I think it may be a pretty name. But not one that I would use.

I love Mythology names, though I often think they work better on pets than people :P

As for Persephone--I love it. But I'm not sure how it would work on a child. Its not terrible, but it is a little out there. Seph is cute, probably because I think the nn Steph for Stephanie is cute.

Why do you like Persephone? Because of the way it sounds or because you like the meaning behind it? Because if it the goddess/meaning behind it that you like, then maybe you could use Kore/Kora/Cora, another name that refers to Persephone. Kora/Cora Persephone makes a cute combo :)

I like Persephone because of how it sounds and the myth. I'm not a fan of Kore/Kora/Cora. I thought about it though. LOL

I like it a lot and think it's usable. I don't know any Persephone's but I know a Briseis (from the Iliad) and she loves her unique name. I like Sephie better than Seph for a NN. I also like the name Sephia.

Persephone Maia
Persephone Carys
Persephone Danielle
Persephone Jade
Persephone Lorelei
