Do you like the name Gage? I read on another site some negative reviews because it was the name of the boy in Pet Cemetery. I don’t want a name I choose for my child to have a negative response from other people. What do you think?

I don’t even know what Pet Cemetery is, and I wouldn’t base my child’s name off of it...

Gage is fine, it means "measurer."

We said the same thing when my cousin announced she was naming her son Gage, but that was 10 years ago. We love the name and no one thinks about the boy from Pet’s Cemetary now so ignore the comments.

Phineas P. Gage (July 9?, 1823 – May 21, 1860) was a railroad construction foreman now remembered for his incredible survival of an accident in which a large iron rod was driven completely through his head, destroying one or both of his brain’s frontal lobes, and for that injury’s reported effects on his personality and behavior — effects said to be so profound that friends saw him as "no longer Gage."

I think it is cute. I have never heard of Pet Cemetery. I might consider spelling the name Gaige instead of Gage. The latter spelling makes me thing of gate for some reason but that is really just my opinion.

For Longer Last Name: (ie Williams)
Gage Ainsley
Gage Mercer
Gage Paxton

For Short Last Name: (ie Smith)
Gage Benjamin
Gage Jameson

To be honest, I don’t at all like the name Gage. It reminds me of a gun, or a hole in the body. BUT the name is really popular and trendy, so obviously a lot of people like it. gl!

No matter what you name your son, you are going to get a negative response from somebody, cause you can’t ever please everybody, so the important thing to do is pick a name that pleases you. If you like Gage, then use it. The majority of people aren’t going to know Pet Cemetary anyway, esp. little kids.

I don’t think he would necessarily get made fun of but a lot of grown ups might think of Gage from Pet Sematary (it is actually spelled like this in the book/movie) and it is not a good association. It is by Stephen King and there is this horrible scene where a toddler gets hit by an 18 wheeler. HEAVY, especially if you’re a parent. That scene sticks with you if you’ve seen the movie, which is actually quite good if you like horror. The name has doubly bad meaning for me because a little boy in our community named Gage was killed by a car when he ran out in the street and everyone said it was like Pet Sematary. I used to like the name but after that happened it was just too weird. So, most people haven’t read/scene Pet Sematary but if you have the name Gage will probably freak you out a bit on a child. If you love it then go for it but otherwise I personally would keep looking. GL!!

I absolutely love the name. I know two boys named Gage (one’s 16, the other is 20) And they love their name. I have seen the movie Pet Semetary, but only because my family is big on the old horror films. It doesn’t really bother me though, because the one Gage that I know has one older sister named Ellie, (the name of the older sister in Pet Semetary) but they were actually named after the movie. But no one really says anything about his name. And the older Gage that I know loves his name, but people always tend to mispell it (Gaige). By the time your child grows up, I doubt many people will have ever heard of Pet Semetary, let alone seen it.
