Matthew vs. like his uncle
my husband and I are expecting a baby boy. We really want to call him Matthew after my brother. My brother already has two sons and he did not name them after him but they are going to have more kids eventually. Should I ask him if he is ok with us using his name and make sure he was not planning on naming one of his kids after him or can we just suprise him at the birth of our baby??

If you are close with your brother I would suggest asking to avoid a problem. I expect that he would be honored and have know problems with it.
Also, Matthew is very nice but I like the similar Mathias/Matheus better. Both names can be pronounced MATH EE us or Matt EE us. I have heard them both ways

thanks you guys! We are French Canadian and his name is actually Mathieu so the baby’s name will also be Mathieu (I used the english version not to confuse anyone)

I can’t imagine him being anything but flattered, and, if he has two sons already and did not name them Matthew, he probably does not intend to.
If you plan to announce the baby’s name once it’s born, it might be nice to talk to him before hand and make sure he’s okay with it... he might enjoy being in on the secret... if you think it’s one he can keep!
