Liam vs. Yes? vs. No?
I really like the name Liam but SSA rankings state its really popular. I am an elementary school teacher in suburban Chicago and have only met one Liam in the past five years so I am not sure of the popularity. Do you like it? How popular is it?
The Top Baby Name is...
Liam
Yes?
No?

I love the name Liam. I know three, but I don’t think it’s overly popular.

I love the name, I know a few Liam’s but they are spread out over the country that I know. I don’t think it’s overly popular.

I absolutely love it!
Popularity is really regional.
Liam is traditionally a nn for William.
If you’re really concerned about it, you could use William, call him Liam, but have Will, Billy, Wills, William, etc.... as "bac-up," in case there was a sudden Liam explosion (which I doubt) in your area.

You have to remember that the kids you are teaching weren’t born last year! The rankings on SSA are for last year. So names that may not be popular for kids of elementary school age, they are becoming popular for babies being born now. I would use William, nn Liam, like the other poster said so that you have other nn options.

I only know a 6 month old named Liam. I am not sure how popular it is really. SS website will also let you know popularity based on state. That may give you a slightly better estimate.

I love it and do not personally know anyone with this name. It is trendy/popular, but it’s not SUPER popular. Go for it!

I love it, but it is popular. It’s up to you. If you love it, use it; but if you’re worried about popularity, then pick something else.
