Hannah Elizabeth vs. Lydia Scarlett

Hi, Its Carrie again. I was actually shocked when Lydia did better than Hannah on my poll! (My husband was disappointed!) Do you really think Lydia Scarlett sounds better than Hannah Elizabeth or is it because its just not as common??? (We have thought about the name Hannah since our son was born (he is now 9) and Elizabeth is my middle name.( We used my husband’s name as our son’s middle name) So Hannah Elizabeth does have meaning to us. I am more confused now than I was before the other poll!!!! Its too bad we’re not having twins!!!!!!!! We know this will be our last baby and I just want to make sure the name is right!!!!! Please leave comments. Thanks.

I love both names! I can see why you are having a hard time. Try writing the names down(to see which one you like to write) also refer to the baby as Hannah for a couple of days and do the same with Lydia. See if that helps. GL!

Thanks for the comment. It seems like I write the names down all the time=) If I do call the baby an actual name it is Hannah. Thanks again!

If you call the baby Hannah, then name her Hannah! It’s a lovely name - its actually my confirmation name because I was totally in love with it in 8th grade! I’m a bit more of a Lydia girl now, but that could just be because I love the classic names, and Lydia is a character in Pride and Prejudice...Hannah is lovely, go for it!

Thanks for the comment, Lauren. It doesn’t seem like it should be that hard does it!!!!! I love both names but as my husband has said Lydia Scarlett just doesn’t seem to fit like Hannah Elizabeth does!!!! Thanks again=)

Lydia Scarlett has much more character IMO. I love Lydia though, it is my 6 year olds name. I find it really pretty, elegant and sophisticated. Hannah is nice but MUCH more common to the point of being overused, and Hannah is also more cutesy and little girlish than Lydia. GL!!

I think that if you are calling her Hannah and that name feels like the right name, you have your answer there. Just because a handful on here like the name Lydia better does not mean that Hannah Elizabeth isn’t the name that you should pick, after all it is based on what you and your husband feel is the best name for your daughter. Don’t let the poll sway your decision. Good luck.

I think that Hannah Elizabeth Hughes is the best. If you want to use Lydia instead of Hannah, Lydia Elizabeth Hughes would be perfect. Hope this helps!

I feel Hannah is overused. Lydia Scarlett is my favorite.
But of course, go with what feels right. If you’re already calling her Hannah it sounds like you’ve already chosen.

Lydia Scarlett gets my vote.

i think Lydia Scarlett is way better than Hannah Elizabeth, Hannah Elizabeth is so common, Lydia Scarlett is such a unique combo and it will age so much better, but it sounds like you’re set on Hannah, so go with what you love, if you accidentally have another one, she can be Lydia Scarlett.

Thanks for the comments everyone!!
haltermanswife, Em, and Ellie, I agree with what your saying. Hannah Elizabeth is sweet and cute while Lydia Scarlett is more sophisticated and sassy (maybe thats a good word for it.) I think Lydia Elizabeth is nice but, it doesn’t seem to flow right to me, I think its the L in the names. I think we will have to meet our little princess and decide then if she seems sweet or sassy=) Thanks again=)

I just wanted to say that I still love both of these names and I will probably meet my little girl before I pick one for sure, but I love the meanings for Hannah and Elizabeth more than Lydia and Scarlett. Hannah means "Favored Grace", Elizabeth means "God’s Promise", Lydia means "Woman from Lydia", and Scarlett means "Red". I love the name Scarlett but I don’t know about the meaning!!!!!

If you are disappointed Lydia won then she’s a Hannah. Take it from someone who was bullied out of naming her son Sanjay like she wanted to. GL
