I like Olivia Marlene. I don’t like Marlene as a first name at all, sorry! But Olivia is gorgeous!

We’re pretty settled on Marlene as the first name

Marla, Mara, Marley, or Margaret would be WAY better than Marlene. No offense, but Marlene seems very unattractive and old-lady sounding.

Offense non-taken, but again, we chose Marlene because it is a family name and we really want to honor my mother.

I think Marlene Olivia is very pretty! The other middle name choices are nice names on their own, but just don’t flow quite as well with Marlene, for me. I think the repeating "n" sounds at the end of Marlene and Catherine don’t quite work, and while Marlene Noel works slightly better, I prefer the 3-syllable Olivia.

You could still honor your mother with a version of Marlene. Marla or Mara would do the trick, and those are more updated and modern sounding than Marlene. Even using Marlene as a middle name would honor her as well. Sorry, but I just think the name Marlene is going to stick out very badly among all the Lilys, Emmas, Avas, and Sophias in her Kindergarten class. I mean, I’m all for using untrendy, less-popular names, but Marlene is a little too dated for my taste. I think Marla or Mara would fit perfectly, yet stand out in a good way! What do you think?

Sorry, but I have to agree; Marlene seems very dated, and I can’t imagine it on a little girl. I do like Olivia Marlene or Marla/Mara Catherine.

How about Marlene, nn Marlie? Or can you honor your mom by using that as a mn?

I like the name Marlene, as well as Marlena. She should be glad she will not be a common Bella or Lilly!

Jeesh--she said it’s to honor her mom and it’s staying. I can easily picture this name taking your daughter all through her life: it’s beautiful.
