My name is Ashly. The name Mary Kate would honor both her grandmas. I love the name, but is it wierd to name my daughter Mary Kate if my name is Ashly? Help! Honest opinions pls!!!

Yeah, I think you would get some strange looks, at least while your daughter was small.

Would something else work, maybe Mary Kay or Erin Mary (Erin could be another nn for Catherine, for instance).

No I don’t think it’s weird their just names. How many people use Jon and Kate + 8’s kinds names for theirs? It’s fine. People may notice but I don’t think it’s a big deal. I mean it’s just the Olsen twins:)

Thanx for the help.....but I hate the name Katelyn and Marie.
I like Katherine tho. I dont like Kay esp not with Mary cause it makes me think of make up.
I cant use Erin cause of a close friend of hubbys named Aaron, its 2 close.
Anyother suggestions if you dont like it?

Yes it’s a little strange, Mary and Kate are two of my favorites names though! I love the name Mary Alice Kate (Kate as the mn) and you could just call her Alice. Let me know if you need more suggestions

i think it’s totally fine...especially when they are family names. Ashly is your name...it’s not like you are having twin girls and naming them Ashly and Mary Kate.

Sure.......I could use some more. I love Alice but hubby vetoed it already. I only like Mary unless it is paired with somethingelse. I really love the name Kate tho:)

Mary Katherine is sweet...I have a friend who has always gone Mary Katherine and she is in her 30’s. Is your grandmother’s name Kate or Katherine?

It’s weird! Katherine Mary is really pretty. If you want to honor both the only other thing I can think of is using Mary Kate as a mn and finding a different fn to go with it

Her name is Kate, but I love both Kate and Katherine. Im just thinking that maybe Mary Katherine is a bit of a mouthful, and would probably b shortened to Mary Kate anyway. But its a lovely suggestion. I’ll keep it in mind
