stella.

MARO in Margo repeated in AOMAR of Altomari makes for a boring name.

The STE sounds of Stella are not repeated in Altomari and so the variation makes it interesting. The fact that the L T and A are repeated are ok because some repetition adds to a name but at a certain point the repeition takes away from the name. Percy Presley doesn’t sound as good as Elvis Presley because there isn’t enough variation in sounds.

forgot to mention Mar is repeated like
John Johnson, Jack Jackson.

But I thought the repeating sounds made it memorable and was a good thing?

Margo sounds better. Good luck!

Can you think of a name that would sound better with our last name? I’m still not sold on Stella
posted by guest: Poll creator :: 2009-07-05 09:48:13 | report
yes--do you have a preference for the first letter, style, anything you like or dislike like a certain sound, unisex, ultrameninine, sporty? i will just type some off the top of my head.
posted by guest :: 2009-07-05 09:54:51 | report
I want something that’s sophisticated like Margo and different like Fiona. It can start with any letter
posted by guest: Poll creator :: 2009-07-05 09:57:48 | report
doyou like longer or shorter names?
posted by guest :: 2009-07-05 10:11:48 | report
Short! One or two syllable. I think that fits the last name best
posted by guest: poll creator :: 2009-07-05 10:14:37 | report
here is what i think about your last name.

Your last name is best thought of as two trochee sounds put together. DA-da Da-da

The best first name for a trochee last name is a trochee DA-da or a dactyl DA-da-da, which is why you like Stella and Margo-both trochees. Most first names are trochees, so narrowing them down is where personal preference comes into place. working on list now.

OMG! Did you read the Perfect Baby Name? I did and I’m still lost! I would love if you helped me find a name that I love! I like Stella but it sounds a little bit like she works in a bar, do you know what I mean? Thank you so so much for helping us!!
posted by guest: poll creator :: 2009-07-05 10:29:48 | report
I like Stella more than Margo so i voted for Stella, but people might do the A Streetcar Named Desire thing ("Stellaaaaaa!").
posted by guest :: 2009-07-05 10:31:00 | report
I would even like a dactyl name if it sounds great, it doesn’t have to be a two-syllable name. That book was great, but I just can’t find a name that I love that sounds great with our last name!

Here are some dactyl names. I hope you like them. They will sound good with Altomari--try sounding them out. I am working on a list of trochees now. I am trying to weed out the obvious non-sophisticated ones without cutting out ones you might like.

If you like z names i have a sneaking suspicion you might like Zoila/Zoya/Zoia/Zolla which are russian and greek forms of Zoe because you like Ls and Is and Os in Milo, Lola.

We like Scarlett, Roma, Phoebe, Kendall, Piper, Ivy (but I think that one rhymes) and from the list above Claudia is best. So, which one sounds the best?
Stella Altomari
Scarlett Altomari
Claudia Altomari
Phoebe Altomari
Piper Altomari
Ivy Altomari
Kendall Altomari
Roma Altomari

We like Zoe too, but it might be played, not so sure. That’s funny that you wrote that. We also like Zelda

Phoebe and Ivy and Roma are from a previous list, but I wasn’t sure if they sounded okay. It’s funny how they found their way back on the list again!

The most sophisticated sounding ones to me are:

Roma Altomari

Name of Rome in Italian-you can’t get more classical.
The sounds a on the end sound more "classy" to me than er, y/ie/ee sound.

Claudia -same reason.

Zelda - same reason.

Zoila/Zoya -however spelled - same reason.

Stella - same reason.

Kendall sounds classy AL sound on the end.

Salome might be my fav because the SAW-loh-may/SAL-loh-may pronunciation is so obviously foreign and exotic.
posted by guest :: 2009-07-05 12:02:33 | report
I also like
Tessa Altomari
Bella Altomari
Flora Altomari
Giada Altomari -same reason.

Roma has been on our list but dh doesn’t like it!! And it’s my grandmother’s name! Do you like Ivy? It’s a little rhymey, right? Then we have Zelda, Stella and Kendall left. The only "new" one is Kendall. I think I prefer Zelda over Stella, but Zelda is a video game. And I have a cousin Claudia, and I think of her everytime I hear it. It looks like maybe we’re down to, Roma and Zelda, right? I might have some convincing to do. The middle name I had picked out is Roma Camille.

Did you like Cleo Altomari or Coco Altomari?

I searched o names 2 syllables and got a couple more trochees:
Io
Dido
Echo
Charo
Rio
Brio
Kahlo
Arno
Lido

We had Tessa too! Which one do you like best out of all of them? Phoebe? I know there’s no convincing there, that won’t be a problem. But I don’t think Phoebe has the same feel as Altomari like Tessa and Roma do.
posted by guest: poll creator :: 2009-07-05 12:11:38 | report
Giada pronounced as a trochee is either JAW-duh (italian) or JAY-duh (english).

Coco Altomari sounds fab!!! He’s in the shower, let’s see how it goes over...okay, not too well. That stinks! I love it!

Phoebe has that EE EE sound like Mimi or Bibi so it is not sophisticated sounding name even though it is classic and sophisticated spelling.
posted by guest :: 2009-07-05 12:16:59 | report
this is fun. i love names.
posted by guest :: 2009-07-05 12:17:49 | report
Ivy isn’t as classy because of the EE on the end just like Sally or Bobbie. However classy looking, unlike Sally or Bobbie.

Other downside--it’s trendy now. There will be more than one in the class probably.

some more trochees i found you might like:

I found my baby name soul mate!! You’re so fun! Piper isn’t so sophisticated either, that one has to go. And Scarlett is a little trashy, so that’s gone. So we’re left Zoe, Stella, Zelda, Roma, Tessa and Kendall

Did you see the last few names with z’s I put up? I am asking because I think there is a bit of delay before we can see what the new post is. I am going to take a shower and then come back in 5 min to see if you got the last few and liked any or not.

Gender: F
Origin: Spanish nickname

A new starbaby favorite, inspired by legendary designer Chanel and chosen by Courteney Cox, that the press loves to ridicule -- but we predict it’s heading for more widespread acceptance and even popularity.
