Siobhan Brielle vs. Saoirse Brianne vs. Yes or No?

Hi guys, it’s Kate again. I posted a poll earlier looking for middle names for Brielle and Brianne, but got a lot of negative comments due to the fact that I already have Brileigh Carolyn, Brinley Jo and Britta Lauren. So after thinking it over, my husband and I have decided to go with Brielle and Brianne as middle names. We found the names Siobhan and Saoirse (Sha-vonne and Sear-sha) and really liked them as names for twins! So what do you guys think of Siobhan Brielle and Saoirse Brianne? -Kate

I don’t like the name.
I would stick to using :B: as the first letter of your kids names, if you have done it for three, then you can continue doing it.
Just don’t use Brielle or Brianne, because they are too close to the other names.

I would continue using B names as well. Brianna
Brittany
Bethany
Brigid

^Britta and Brittany are way too close. If we were to go with the B theme, they would be Brielle and Brianne. So it’s either Brielle and Brianne or Siobhan Brielle and Saoirse Brianne. -Kate

If you go with Brielle & Brianne, how do you plan on keeping they all straight? All your kids names are so close.

Thanks for the suggestions of B names, guys, but they aren’t needed! Thanks anyway. :) -Kate

I hate Siobhan & Saoirse! Terrible names!

How do you keep all your children’s names straight? What do you use for nicknames?
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Why did you decide to have all the names start with BRI?
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Brileigh (Bry, like fry, not bree) sometimes goes by Leigh, Brinley writes Brynn on papers at school, and Britta usually just goes by her full name, occasionally Brit. And Brielle and Brianne, if we don’t name them Siobhan and Saoirse, have the option to go by Elle and Anne, or their middle name if they choose. So really, it’s quite simple. :) -Kate

I don’t like those names. they are not very pleasant sounding.

If you continue to use B names, use something different not BRI names...

Bethany and Bonnie
Bonnie and Bella
Bailey and Bonnie
Bailey and Bella
Beth and Blair
Blaire and Brooke

And to the 7th poster, I guess that means you won’t be naming your kids these names, but that doesn’t mean I can’t love them, and I do. So thanks for sharing! -Kate

You can really suggest all the names you want, but it’s Brielle and Brianne, if not Siobhan and Saoirse. We aren’t interested in any other names at all. -Kate

Why use BRI with all your kids?
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Miss Kate, please dont be offfended when I say this, but, if you know how people feel about the Brielle and Brianne thing, then why ask? We are just trying to help you and mostly your girls so they wont have a hard time in school

Because we really like names that start with that, obviously. They appeal to my husband and I. -Kate

WHY ARE YOU USING BRI WITH ALL YOUR KIDS?
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Why ask if you already know that you & your husband like them? Why are you on here? You aren’t taking anyone’s advice anyways.

Because this poll was not intended for the "Brielle and Brianne thing", I wanted to get opinions on Siobhan and Saoirse. They brought it up and asked questions, so I elaborated, and now people are suggesting names, even when I’ve made it quite clear we don’t need or want suggestions. To reiterate, this poll should be about Siobhan and Saoirse. -Kate

I want opinions, not advice. They’re two very different things. -Kate

My opinion is that all your kids names are all close to each other. Siobhan & Saorise sounds like terrorist names, they are super ugly.
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
Miss Kate... look at your poll! you got opinoins! People dont like Aiobhan and Saoirse. and you insist if you dont use those you will use Brielle and Brianne, and people gave you their opinoins on that! sorry if I offended you.

oops Aiobhan is supposed to be Siobhan!
posted by Vivica :: 14 years ago | report
Why are you using all BRI names or terrorist names?
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
To the poster Kate: I dont think that anyone has said that they like Siobhan and Saoirse. Nor does anyone like the BRI thing. But if this is real, then they are your kids and you can name them what you want. If you are dead set on them, better to just do what you want and not ask for opinions unless you are just looking for praise. We are trying to help by giving other options. But if you don’t want other options...

Hey Kate.. i agree i really dont like the two S names.. they do sound like foreign terrorist.. sorry.. just my opinion..
But personally i think that if you have already started the BRI trend with all your other kids then i would continue doing it... i dont see no harm in it.. especially if they have the nicknames you were talking about.. i would definitely continue the BRI names and dont use the S names

Kate,
I think you should continue the B trend and stick with Brielle and Brianna! They are lovely names! At least they aren’t made up or to tryndee! Lol! Sorry for all the negative comments! People suck sometimes!

well im going to be different and tell you that i LOVE Siobhan and Saoirse!! they have so much meaning in the irish culture and are soooo much prettier than the made up sounding bre names. and yes people may ask questions about spelling and pronunciation at first but people will catch on. These names are infitately better, please use them!! GL!!

Geez Louise... Unneccessarily rough poll.

For what it’s worth, I love Siobhan Brielle and Saoirse Brianne. They’re not "terrorist" or "terrible" at all... they are lovely, traditional Irish names.

I do think it would be really tough to have these names in the States, simply because many people will not know how to pronounce or spell them, and it would be difficult to learn because they are not pronounced phonetically at all how they are spelled. I know that they are pronounced as Shavonne Brielle and Seersha Brianne, but that’s just because I love names, and I am familiar with them. Personally, I think I’d go with Brianne Saoirse and Brielle Siobhan.

Either way, it’s up to you. I think with Soairse Brianne and Siobhan Brielle, or Brianne Soairse and Brielle Siobhan, would be lovely names for your daughters.

For what it’s worth Soairse means "freedom," and Siobhan means "Yahweh is gracious." Siobhan is the Irish feminine version of John.

Best wishes!

I love Siobhan and Soairse...i like the way they sound but not the way they look...if you want to go with them spell then the way they sound so no one says it wrong.. GL!!!

Doesn’t the name ’Saoirse’ have a tainted reputation? (see Wiki) Saoirse, a fiercely irish republican name, violent freedon from britain, brits out, republican Sinn Fein, the Real IRA, Saoirse republican news, IRA newspaper, etc, etc), Certainly not a name that I would choose for my daughter.

I do like the name Siobhan, but i’m not sure about Saoirse... go with the flow Kate & choose the names you want:-) havent heard Brielle or Brianne before either - good luck!

Whats with the Brielle and Brianne names? Siobhan sounds pretty nice and Saoirse sounds nice too (i know nothing about its meaning), but trying to combine Siobhan, Brielle, Saoirse & Brianne in two names just sounds like a Gaelic overdose to me!

I like the name Saoirse. My hubby and I are trying to conceive, and have started tossing names around.

I was born in Hawaii and have a Hawaiian middle name. I’ve only ever received compliments on it and we plan on using it as a first name for a girl if we have one. But the more I think about Saoirse, the more I like it.

I think when names are spelt phonetically, they look stupid. Maddasin, Britanee, Jakub, etc. Seersha is one of those, and the name would lose its beauty if spelt phonetically.

And really, how is it any different than the African community giving their children the names they do? At least this one has a real, positive meaning: freedom.

As my hubby is in the military and has deployed numerous times, and I was in as well as my entire family so I think it would be a neat way to honor that. Liberty just doesn’t cut it for me. I’m not much of a fan of ’virtue’ names--Chasity, Constance, Charity, etc.

Go for it! I think it’s becoming more mainstream anyways.

My Daughter’s name is SAOIRSE KATE. She turns one next Saturday!! Anyway, I LOVE her name. It is rich with my family’s heritage, beautiful and so befitting of her. I get nothing but compliments and I chose to spell it in it’s original form. Go for it, don’t let anyone change your mind!
