Bluma Odette vs. Bluebelle Magdelena vs. Violet Blue
So, We’re having a girl. We already have boy, Robby, who is two. He wants to name his sister, Blue. My husband and I didn’t take is seriously until we got to the B section of our name book. I fell in love with Bluma, a Hebrew name meaning flower, or also Bluebelle. My grandmother’s name was Violet, which goes with the whole blue thing. Thanks! -Annie

I would go with a different fn and use Blue as a mn. I also like Violet as a first or mn, but not Violet Blue. I agree it sounds like a crayon. Azure is also a blue that might work as a first or middle name.

I think Blue is a pretty cool mn, but as a fn it’s just odd and not very girlish.
My older son wanted to name his little brother "Reddie." I think it’s pretty common, and there is probably a good reason why people don’t ususally leave naming decisions to preschoolers.
Bluebelle isn’t horrible, but I think it’s kind of a tough one to age well. What if your daughter doesn’t like it? What if she resents the fact that her normally named brother got to tag her with a hippie handle?
Things to think about.....
As for Violet, it’s fine, but I’d use either it or Blue as the mn-not both.
Bluma sounds heavy. I can’t explain why, but it does.
Odette and Magdelena are pretty cool, although I ’d check your spelling on the latter.
Maggie Blue actually has a pretty cool ring to it.

Violet Magdalena is beautiful, and he could nickname her Blue. Bluma/Bluebelle sound fairly made-up and childish, and they wouldn’t age well, nor are they practical.
Violet Magdalena is a great option, with Blue as a nn, so everyone wins.
Good luck!

Bluebelle sounds like a fairy name, like tinkerbelle.
Violet Blue sounds like a crayon.
I really don’t like any of them.
