last name father vs. lastname mother vs. lastname Mother-fathers

Help I am not sure what to do ab our sons last name. I have one son from a previous relationship. I had him alone and gave him my lastname. Well now we are expecting I am married but when I changed my lastname I just put a hyphen it. What to do with the new baby? And will my older son feel left out?

I would hyphen the last name. I’m not sure how old your older son is, but maybe talk to him about it and ask him if he would like the hyphenated name, you can change it at the social security office fairly easily if he would like it as well.

Okay I don’t know. Here are some stories though.

My freshman math teacher went by her maiden name and married name. Her babies all have just her husband’s last name.

My cousin had a boy before she was married he has her maiden last name. He still has that name (Johnson) she got married became (Wilkins) their second boy has just Wilkins. So I don’t know. Do what you want.

i would go with the fathers since you are married, but if anything would ever happen in the marriage and you got full custody of the kid you could always change it like you could change your name back.

I would say the fathers last name or hyphenated.
