I would only ever use Jett as a nickname. Same goes for Tripp. They’re cute, but they won’t age well. Can you really imagine someone saying "You’ve reached Jett Carter’s office" or something to that effect? It might to ok as a middle name too, but I’d go for a nickname.

I LOVE it as a first name. I don’t like the really strange names that some people are coming up with, but I also don’t like the really common names. Would you like having the same name as 5 or 6 other kids in your class at school?

Don`t like it at all. First name, middle name or nickname. It sounds like it’s trying too hard to be cool. Like you’ve named him after a "bad boy" character in a movie.

I think Jett is fine as a first name, I actually can imagine someone saying you’ve reached Jett Carter’s office, its very similar to Jeff.

I see what you guys are saying both ways, I don’t want my child to have a super common name so that he’s one of 5 in the class but I want it to be professional enough too. I was thinking James (the Jett/Jett) Carter it being nickname or Andrew Jett Carter

thanks everybody for your opinions!

I’d personally prefer to be the 3rd Jack in my class growing up than be the laughing stock of my workplace (which, I might add, will last a great deal longer).

It seems most people these days are naming their babies, not the adults they will become and spend the majority of their life as.

If you must use it, hide it away as a middle name. I’m named after an aunt that we all love but whose name is ridiculous. The name is used, but not in everyday life.

James Carter nn Jett as a little kid is nice. Also Andrew Jett Carter sounds nice. Professional yet a bit different.

What about Jedidiah nn Jett or nn Jed
posted by guest :: 14 years ago | report
I don’t think I like Jedidiah for a first name but it does make me think that people are really used to Jed/Jeff, so maybe Jett isn’t that strange really after all. My cousin suggested Jettison and Jefferson but i’m not sure about those either, keep thinking.
