Abel vs. Not Abe?
We like the name Abel but my husband pointed out that people will probably shorten it to Abe and we don’t want Abe. Do you think they will?

As long as you stop people from giving him a nickname from day 1 and keep with it, you should be fine. I know a lady named Nicole who absolutely hates being called Nikki. No one calls her that because she corrects them immediately.

If the family sticks to Abel then that is most likely what he will be called. Now his friends that will probably be another thing...But that is up to the child at that point..GL

I love Abe, but I don’t care for Abel, so I can see why people would try to call him Abe. If you make it clear that he does not go by Abe, it should be ok though. GL!

Abel itself is short so it really doesnt need to be shortened. I don’t care so much for the name though.

I think Abe is indefinate because unlike some names that get shortened because we are used to them, Abel is said Abe-al, Abe has to be prounced no matter what, maybe you people are right but my brother is Tyler and my mom when to great lengths to keep people from calling him Ty but by the time middle school hit it was impossible

I had the same problem with think I would call my son Abraham but don’t like Abe, I think you can correct it, but only to an extent. Friends and Lovers like nicknames.
