Sirius ? vs. Frost ?

Twin boys and we couldn’t be more excited! They’re fraternal, due in three weeks and show a fondness for sucking their thumbs! We really love these two names but are wondering what you think. Robert Frost wrote my favorite poem, from my favorite movie. He also wrote a poem entitled Canis Major which is, coincidentally, a poem about the constellation Sirius, better known as the dog star or the brightest star to be seen from Earth. Thanks a lot!

canis major--isn’t that the dog star?

Frost is one of my favorite characters in my favorite book series, so I LOVE it. And Sirius is a cute name to go with it, especially given the connection.

’We are wondering what you think’ and middle name suggestions would be great, First Poster.

Canis Major is the dog star, yes.

I really really do not like the first name of Frost on a boy. There are so many good boy names - dont use this. Maybe as a middle name.

Frost Syrus I like even better!

Well, we thought Sirius Frost for one name but obviously, it doesn’t come out well.

We don’t like Cyrus.

There are thousands of good boy names, you’re right. We all just have different opinions on what those are. Why don’t you like Frost? Giving a reason would be better than just saying don’t use it. I would need to know why not.

Frost is cute but I just don’t see it as a dignified name for an adult.
Can you imagine the President of United States, Frost...?

We have a president named Barack. If that’s not the ugliest name... Now a name like Caiydynn, I would never vote for. BUT, if a Lyndon can be voted into office in the 60’s, I have high hopes for a Frost.

I just couldn’t picture a grown man, or even a teenager, being taken seriously as Frost...and then Sirius is satellite radio...and you worry about Sirius Frost being too much for one kid’s name, but just think about signing a card: (Mom), (Dad), Sirius & Frost

It’s really nice to see new ideas and names that aren’t repeated on the polls over and over and over and over.

I really like how both names are meaningful, and they are unique without being over the top.

I think people certainly have their own predispositions about taking someone seriously/see as an adult at face value/based on name alone, but I don’t think it’s a sentence of doom for Frost and Sirius.

Best of luck!

If you love names use them but you can’t expect people to share your opinion & or taste.

It sounds like you think that people who have their own predispositions about names are wrong for it...I think it’s looking out for a person. For instance, employers are quick to judge based on names...as much as people would like to think our society doesn’t judge, it unfortunately does. Then again, I guess if you want to stick it to society, there’s always the "Boy Named Sue" scenario...gotta be tough to compensate for the name

What about naming him Major? since the name of the poem is canis major

Love Sirius, but as a teacher, the first thing that popped out to me, are that children can be mean, and Frost could very well be turned into " Frosty the snowman".... I love that you chose a name for meaning- what is the poem titled? Are there meaningful names inside the poem?
