I am looking for some names for may baby girl that either mean peace (first choice) or grace (second choice). My husband and I both have always loved the name Olivia.... but we can’t get over how popular it has become. We live in NH and it has been the # 1 girls name for years here, and in the top 5 for years before that.

Ayla isn’t out there at all. It’s beautiful
I don’t like either of those, sorry, but I agree that Olivia is way too overused. Ayla would be my choice, it reminds me of the character from The Earth’s Children series by Jean Auel (Clan of the Cave Bear) BUT it has gotten pretty trendy lately IMO...just check out this website for polls about it. Another issue is that because Isla has gotten so popular people want to make it "dyfferent" and are trying to spell it Ayla.
In all honesty I think you’re trying to focus too much on the meaning of a name when hardly anyone will know it anyway. What other people and your child will concentrate on is how pretty a name is, how unique it is, and if it ages well or not.

Irene and Erin both mean peace. Paloma means "dove", which is a symbol of peace. Do any of these appeal to you?
Regarding the post about focusing too much on meaning, I’d have to disagree. Certainly what attracts us to a name is the sound, but meaning should be considered. My husband and I are both linguists and our children know that we looked into the meaning of their names. We loved the name (soundwise) Cecilia Rae, but rejected it because of it’s meaning/ Blind Doe. See what I mean?
