Lee vs. too weird vs. just fine

I like Lee. A lot. and it is my grandmother’s middle name (only my favorite person ever-my hero), and as far as I know she has no namesake and I’d just LOVE to honor her, especially because I like the name Lee a lot too. The Problem- I want to name our BOY Lee. Too weird to be named after a grandmother if you’re a boy? I mean, we do it to girls all the time, name them after a male. What do you think???

I do not think it is weird at all. Lee is a nice name on a girl and a boy in my opinion. If it works for a girl, it works for a boy. The namesake is the nicest thing, and I’m pretty sure this was originally a boys name, so that can always be a good excuse if someone teases him. (I don’t think it’s a problem though)

Thanks. Well it’s not like I’m going to go around telling his friends at school that he’s named after his great gandmother lol. And really, I’ll betcha that my grandmother was named after a male. I’ll have to ask her if she was named after someone, maybe it’s somewhere else in the family tree too.

I don’t think it’s too weird per se but I do think it’s a very girly name, how about use it for a middle name? Carson Lee, Henry Lee, Gavin Lee etc.. I’ve only met one boy named Lee and he was very nerdy and weird, maybe I’m biased but I’ve never met an athlete I’m just saying

Possibly. I’ll ask husband. But if you knew our last name....a short, sweet and simple first name is really the best.

I think Lee is too boring for a first name. What about Levi? Than you have than Lee sound, but its a more masculine and short first name.

I knew boys named Lee. Although usually a middle name for boys or girls, it is also sometimes used as a first name for either.

I think it is fine. Or you could use Leo or Leon. You could also use lee as a mn or at the end of a name, such as Riley or Finley.

I like it better as a middle name on boys, but I don’t see any problem with using it to honor your grandmother! Especially since it was her middle name. It could have even been a surname--my dad’s family had a tradition of using the mother’s maiden name as a middle name for the eldest son.

I think its a cute fn for a boy. Esp if you have a long last name.

if that’s what you want, it’s PERFECTLY FINE! :) ... my husband’s middle name is Lee - named after his Grandmother. he’s totally fine with it. Lee is the perfect ’unisex’ name :)

In the UK Lee is a boys name!!! Go for it, it’s not weird at all, over here it would be weird on a girl unless it was a middle name spelt Leigh. I suppose you could go for Leo, Leon, Leonard, Leonardo, Leroy, Liam. Best of luck :-)

Lee is as much a boys’ name and you obviously love it. It means so much to you and you may always regret that you didn’t use it. Definitely go for it. What middle names are you considering?

I have a male cousin who is in his early thirties names Lee. I think it is a great uncommon first name.

I think Lee (especially when spelled like this) is most definitely a boys name. I am a teacher and if I saw this name on my list I would automatically assume boy.
