How would you vs. pronounce vs. this?

I LOVE Irish names and was wondering if people would know to pronounce Caoilainn as "Kay-linn". I am not looking to spell the name any other way as part of its charm for me is the Irish spelling. Please just let me know about opinions on pronunciation. Thanks!

I think this only makes sense if you’re Irish. Otherwise, that spelling will truly be weird. And no, I wouldn’t know how to pronounce it unless someone told me. Irish names are mysterious to me that way! :-) Although I do agree they are very striking and beautiful. Good luck!

Just for background: I have a graduate degree, have been blessed to travel all over the world and am also lucky to speak 3 languages (French, Spanish and English)and I would have no idea how to pronounce that name. I considered Kaelyn for my daughter as well with that spelling and was worried that peo. wouldn’t know how to pronounce that...

It’s actually pn. Kwee-lin. So no, I can’t see it as Kay-lin. At the most, I’d say you could go with Kee-lin.

I agree, I’m from the U.S. and I’ve travelled all over and I am a fluent Spanish speaker and I would guess Ky-oh-lain or maybe like Caro-laine...it looks like Ka-oil-ain...I’d do Cailainn (just take out the o) and maybe it will be said pretty close or add the r and make it Carolain gl!

Ma chère dame, le fait que vous parliez français, espagnol ou anglais n’a rien à voir ici. ;)

You’d have to speak Gaelic or be already familiar Irish names to know how to pronounce that name.

It’s lovely as it is, and I say go for it. If anything, it will be a good conversation starter for your daughter.

My background: I’m a translator. ;)

how about just spell Kaylinn a little differently like Caielinn for example, I think this will always be mispronouced!
