What do you think vs. of Sandy as vs. nickname?

We want to name our boy Alexander, nicknamed Sandy, and I think we love the nn even more than the full name that goes with it. I would like to know what other people think of it, though. Is it pretty androgynous, or do you mostly think of Sandy as girl? We have an old male family friend named Sandy whom we’d like to honor as well. Thanks!

Sandy is such a girl’s name. Very dated too. Now, I’ve only heard it used on dogs.

When I read the title of your poll I automatically assumed you were having a girl. I really don’t like this nn for a boy. I know Xander is popular right now, but I prefer it as a nn for Alexander. Perhaps you and your family could lovingly nn him Xandy, but he can go by a more masculine name at school and with friends? HTH

I don’t think Sandy is a good nickname.......too feminine.....

Sandra nn Sandy is adorable...personally, I think it is not masculine enough for a boy. Sorry - makes me think of a boy named Sue.

Grounds for teasing.

I’ve also heard Zander as a nn for Alexander. Sandy is way too feminine.

I’d save the nn Sandy for a girl. Alexander is a great name on it’s own. GL!

I actually know two men named Sandy. One is probably in his late thirties/early forties. The other is about the same age, but his last name is Shell. Honest. Some lady named her son Sandy Shell. I never could get past that. I would use it for a boy, sorry.
