What Should vs. I Do!

My husband’s grandmother’s name was Carmen and he loved her dearly. She passed away and he wants to honor her by giving our daughter her name. I think it’s sweet he wants to honor her, but I really do not like Carmen at all. I don’t know what to tell him or what do to. Please help. Thanks!

Really? I think Carmen is cool. Definitely would be a perfectly fine middle name, if that compromise works for both of you. Other than that, maybe you could convince your husband to honor her by using the same initials?

I would use it as a middle name! To be honest, I don’t think anyone even knows my daughters middle name, only on important papers, but she would still be honored.

you can always do a double middle name as well, a second middle name REALLY never gets used, but it would still be there to honor.

You could alway use Carmen as a middle name or You could also think about using her middle name as the babys first name.

I agree use it as a middle name. Babies name should be equally liked by both parents so he should compromise wt u.

I think Carmen is a great name, but if you don’t love it, do not feel obligated - I agree with pps about middle names or using her middle name or use those names as inspiration for a different name - maybe not literally, but find something she loved (or example maybe she was a rose gardener and you could use the name Rose in your dd’s name).

You can use a similar name or part of a name and still honor her. What was her mn?

Carmel (car-MEL)
Camryn
Carmindy

He doesn’t know her middle name. I think I’d be okay with it as her middle name. Do you have any suggestions?

You can do a Car name, like Carolyn, or Carly Especially if you can find another relative you love with a ly or lee or lyn in there name.

Just use it as a middle name instead. I agree with not liking Carmen it is quite dated.
