Well I’ve only ever heard it on girls. And Sleeping Beauty’s name is Briar Rose. So yes, I feel that it is a girl’s name.

Girl for me, but I can see how it could sound boyish to some.

It’s so unusual I’d say to just use it, except for the Sleeping Beauty thing.
That makes me think you better leave it to the girls.
