What does everyone think of the name Lavender? We both love it but need an outside opinion and are also stuck on a nn to use. Her MN will be Dawn. Thanks for any help!

It’s not horrible but I think you might get some raised eyebrows. What about Lilac or Violet instead?

Thanks. I like Violet but it has become quite popular in my town in the past 6 months or so and I’m not such a fan of Lilac. I really appreciate the suggestions though as we’re really stuck so thanks again!

Sorry but I don’t like Lavender. If you like flower names go with Lily, Violet,
Daisy, Iris, or Rose. Best Wishes!

Lavender seems a little "over the top" for me, and somehow reminds me too much of Alexander. Some suggestions:

Marguerite or Margot
Marigold
Hyacinth
Juniper
Iris
Ivy
Laurel
Saffron
Sage

I actually like Lavender! I don’t think it’s all that crazy. But I wouldn’t use it with Dawn - that’s a little much, like you’re describing a sunrise. Iris and Sage are very nice. If you’re not set on a plant name, Lavinia is a very old and beautiful name that has a similar sound. Leonora, Eloise, and Theadora also have a similar feel to me. Other botanical names are hard to come up with, besides the ones suggested, but there’s Peony and Poppy (which might cause teasing) as well as Petunia (which doesn’t sound as soft as Lavender) and Chloe (which means blooming) and Amaryllis (which I’ve always really liked, but might be too unusual).

Thanks a lot for your comment. I really love Lavinia and Theadora as I quite like Thea as a nn.

Lavinia Dawn does sound a lot better than Lavender Dawn.
