To me, Ella is classic and feminine - soft and sweet. Kate is classic and feminine but stronger and more direct. Ella Kate is my daughter’s name! :)

Ella-Sweet, Spunky, Cute
Kate-Confident, Spunky, Classic

I like both but prefer Kate partly because I think it ages better and partly because of the popularity of Ella at the moment.

Both names are gorgeous, though I prefer Ella as a nn. Between the two I would probably pick Kate.
