Do you like the name Lydia for a girl? I think it is so pretty and I like the fact that it is an old name that is not overused - yet. What do you all think? Comments appreciated!

I adore Lydia! She feels very Jane Austen-ish to me. Elegant and lovely!

I completely agree with Lola! I love the Austen-ish feel it has.

I’m not a fan...there’s a reason names like Lydia & Sylvia aren’t popular. Just something about them is bland, plain and boring...sort of like the name Jane...

Anonymous... take a look at the SSA charts, Sylvia’s on her way up too, 524 as of 2006 (and that’s a 26 point jump up in two years.) It’s been falling, yes, but she’s reversed herself. It’s the nickname factor, Lydie & Sylvie sound cute after Ellie & Evie. Their Y & V as well as their cute nickname versions are bringing them up again.

And Jane is still in the top 500! Watch her rise next year too! I’m starting to see her all over the place online. Two years max, before a fairly large jump up, I predict.

Done rambling. Sorry for the hijack poll maker!

I totally agree with Lola. And even though Lydia’s more popular here in England (85 in 2006 though it’s been steadily falling), that’s what I’m naming my daughter on the way :)

I love Lydia, it’s been a favorite since I was a little girl. Unfortunately my husband’s not a fan. Also, the fact that it is not popular is an appeal to me. I was careful to give my daughter’s names that were not made up but were not going to be heard on three other girls at school. I have to say again that I really love Lydia.

Don’t like Lydia at all. Sounds very old and ugly.
