Baby vs. Emment Jackub?..

Hi everyone. Today our soon to be adopted daughter was born! Thrilled we went and saw her. As part of the adoption the mother (a teenager at our church) is aloud to name the baby as long as the release forms are signed without 24hours of birth. we agreed because this is an open adoption and the names on her list were Allison, Taylor, Madison. So we figured it would be ok. Well the baby was named and release forms with signed but we want to change the baby’s name... because we HATE emment Jackub.. we are afraid that the mother may fight back if we change her name due to "breaking the contract.." we are very worried this could get nasty fast. She is 15 and was unsure all 9months and even today.. and we know she can still speak up but she seemed ok since she was aloud time with the child once every 6months and would get phone calls here and there but we don’t want to set her off. We asked about the name and she said she loved it more then anything.

emmette jacob? Find a nick name! It’s sound like a bad mess, maybe God is saying that this baby is not for you if she is unsure and you dislike the last thing his mother will give him. Call him Emmet or Met or just MJ!!! And keep the peace and love! Gsej!!!

is there any possibility that the girl did this purposely? She is 15, and she might just be trying to find a reason to cause a problem. maybe?..and i WOULD change it. theres no sense in anyone going around with a name like that, especially a little girl.

Emment? Is that a misprint?

Ok so she named her baby with out consulting you about it and is unsure and she is 15 and name her baby something the has meaning to her, but makes no sense to anyone else. I think the name is going to be the least of the issues. Good luck, I would get the pastor involved

I would delete this poll if possible bc if you google "emment jackub" it pops up on top and a 15yr will google her babies name!!!!

Emment Jackub? Sounds like a twilight fan emmet and jacob
Well you could call her Emmy or Emma and never tell anyone her middle name! I’d talk to her slowly but not force anything. Leave the middle name to her, those are never used, but see if you could change to emmaline or Emma?
Good luck!

this is a hard situation, talk to ur adoption agency to see if the BM could do anything if you change the babys name. surely once u have fully adopted ur beautiful daughter the BM cant do anything.
I would deffinately change the name it is not a girls name in anyway but maybe if u explain to the BM that u dont want ur daughter to be bullied she might understand gl =)

I would usually say wait a little while then change the name but since you are going to keep regular contact with the birth mother I definitely think you should be honest with her straight away.
As tactfully a possible explain to her that you thought the baby would have a more femminine name like the ones on the list. Maybe suggest names like Emilie, Emmi, Emilia, Amelie that are close to what she chose & see if she likes any of those.
Make it clear that you are trying to be honest with her & include her in this decision. Good luck

i would definitely try to change it, you’ve been nice with her and now she’s being difficult, once you’ve adopted the baby she’s legally yours, so you should be able to change her name, if not nn Emmy or Emme looks like a good option.
