Help vs. Me
Please help me convince my husband that Flynn Stone is NOT a good name for our son. Our last name is Stone. I’ve tried everything I can think of and need some other advice. Our three girls have normal names: Emily, Jessa, and Kailyn. Please help me, I’m desperate. --Heather

I don’t think it’s that bad, but you can tell him both names ending in ’n’ wouldn’t sound as nice as you’d like it. You could always call your son by his middle name, if it would be less of a problem.

So the problem is really just that there are two one syllable names ending in an -n sound, right?
Here’s what you do:
1) Say no
2) Suggest another name with the same sound as Flynn
3) Make him watch a horrible movie from the 1980s--Girls Just Want to Have Fun--starring Sarah Jessica Parker, in which the main character’s best friend, Lynn Stone, laments that she hates her name and is going to change it as soon as she turns 18. (The teacher calls her Lynnstone, rhyming with Flinstone. Okay, I was like seven at the time! You can’t criticize a seven year old’s taste in movies!)
Here’s what you do:

It’s not that they both end with ’n’ that’s got me against it, it’s just that when said together, it’s Flintstone, like the cartoon or the rock? Its the first thing I thought of and I can’t get it out of my head...

It makes me think of the Flinstones!!! Yab a dab a doo!!!!

It took me a while to get it. If you last name wasn’t Stone, Flynn would work. But I wouldn’t use the name.

Exactly... And I don’t know if he’s doing it on purpose or not, but I need to convince him that it’s not a good name, but he says that being called Flintstone isn’t bad. I’m at my wits end! It would help if I had a name to try and persuade him with, but I can’t come up with anything I like enough to tell to him. What else can I do to try and get him off of this Flynn Stone kick?

it’s okay, but it makes me think of the flintstones. tell him that his son is going to be teased because of his choice of name for him, does he want that?
