Yes it\’s ok vs. No don\’t do it

Is it ok to call my baby Emelia (but she will be known as Emmie from day one) when my niece is called Amelie, my sister thinks the names are too alike!!! We love the name Emmie but it doesnt flow as well with Hope King as Emelia Hope King. please be honest!!!

You could use a different name with the nickname Emmie that isn’t quite as close.

I do agree that Amelia Hope Grace sounds nice, but is it worth family conflict? The names are very close. I can see were your sister is coming from.

There are a million names out there. Why choose one so close to someone else’s name in the family?

I think Emmie Hope is cute! Emily Hope is nice too. Emilia is very close and they probably want there own unique names anyway, IMO.

what about Emanda and you can still call her Emmie. E for Amanda instead of the A.
Or just name her Emmie???

What about Evangeline? You could call her Evie and that has a different sound than Amelie.

I don’t honestly see a problem with that. My sister’s mn is Maree but it was almost Marissa, while my cousin is Marisa. And I know cousins named Ali and Alison! I mean, you didn’t suggest naming her Amelie and if she’s going to be Emmie anyway, what’s wrong with it?

Emmanuella/e is another name that would be way different yet can still use Emmie.
Or even Imogen and still call her Emmie

Actually, Emelia is a variant of Amelia. And Amelia is a variant of Amalia. Amelie is also a variant of Amalia. So, Emelia and Amelie are essentially the same name.
I would use another name from which the nn Emmie can derive.

Who cares what your sister thinks its your baby not hers! Amelie and Emelia are kind of close but if from day 1 your going to call her Emmie, most likely the only time you’ll use her full name is when shes in trouble... Emelia Hope is adorable.
