naming boy vs. after vs. father?

Is naming your son after your husband a trend that is dying out? My husband has such a common name Michael! And my father, brother, and a few cousins are also named Michael. We already have a daughter Izobel Donna (2) and am trying to talk my husband out of using Michael for our new addition! Debbie and Mike

I dont think it is a dying trend.
I would use Michael as your childs middle name. My son is Michael and his partner wants to call their first born son Michael???Too confusing having dad and son called Michael esp when ie my son doesnt shorten his name.

Ask anyone who has done it and they usually say no. We thought about it with our older son (my dh is Chad, and we were going to call him C.J) we went with Conner instead and I am so glad (although now there are too many of them :), Maybe you could do something close, I love the name Micah.

I would use Michael as a middle name, like Logan Michael, Dillen Michael, Anthony Michael, Nathan Michael, Justin Michael, etc, there are millions of possibilities.

What about using a similar name or a different version of the name. My Aunt Marcy’s husband is Michael and they have a son named Mikhail. I think Mikhail was a great choice, especially since Michael is so overly common in the area Mikhail attends school with me.

I agree with using Michael as a middle name. No Jr.’s though, the child needs to have his own identity. JMO

I agree with the last post your son does deserve his own name, Izobel is a more modern name so give your son one, but not one thats too popular like Caden, Jaden, Jack
