I’m Deborah, but I’ve always pronounced my name Deb rah. I hardly ever use my full name. I use Debbie instead. The name is a bit dated, which pretty much guarantees that hardly any kid her age will have that name.

I know a young Deborah and she is always known as Debbie. I think it is a fine name. Just because the name was most popular 40-odd years ago doesn’t mean anything. Many names make a comeback, probably for good reason. EG Audrey - now to me that is an old lady’s name!!

Hey, I recently saw a name similar to Deborah that I put on my list. It’s a variant of Deborah and it means the same thing. Devorah/Devora-(DEV-or-ah). She could use the nickname Devi (dev ee). Only if you want. I think that would be an updated version of the name Deborah. Just a thought.

I think that it is pretty old ladyish, but if you like it go for it!

If you don’t like it pronounced a certain way, then I wouldn’t use it.... you’ll be fighting people with how to say it forever. It’s like someone saying "I like the name Megan, but say it MAY-gen not MEG-an"... I think you’re setting yourself up for a headache.
