Sebastian vs. Nicholas vs. Zane

We can’t decide. We also like Owen and Sean, but we are open to any suggestions. Also, I heard the name Seeley (see-lee) on a TV show (Bones) and I thought it was kind of cool, and my husband’s dad’s mn is Lee, so I thought it would be kind of cool to tie that into our son’s name. We are adopting our son and keeping his given name as a mn, so we can’t use Lee as a mn. But is Seeley just way too weird? What do you think? Thanks! Izzy

I think Seeley is kind of cute. I just don’t really care for it for a given name.

Owen, Nicholas, and Sebastian are my favorites.

What is your sons given name and your last name? Then, I can see which works the best.

Thanks for the suggestions! Our last name is Biller and our son’s given name is Kreshnik - it means Knight.

OH! You’re that family. I remember I posted on yours before.

Sebastian Kreshnik Biller
Sebastian Biller

Owen Kreshnik Biller
Owen Biller

Nicholas Kreshnik Biller
Nicholas Biller

I think I would go with either Sebastian or Owen. Both are very adorable and grow well. Sebastian can be called by his full first name, Bastian, Seb, or Bastian. You could even give him the pet name Seeley, if you preferred. Same goes for Owen.

I wouldn’t go with Nicholas because of the -nik in Kreshnik. They all sound great (that’s why I suggested them!) but you need to get critical and picky when it comes to narrowing.

Thanks! I like the idea of naming him Sebastian and maybe using Seeley as a nn. We were considering the idea of using his given mn with Nicholas, so he’d be Nicholas Besian, because Nicholas and Kreshnik both have the nik sound, but we are not sure if Nicholas Besian Biller sounds very good. What do you think? Thanks!

I like the way that Besian looks more than Kreshnik, however, Kreshnik is starting to sound pretty cool to me. It goes very well with a bunch of names and has a nice flow with your last name. If your last name wasn’t Biller, I’d probably be debating which to use. If you’re really stuck on Nicholas, don’t worry too much about the -nik ending. It’s not all that bad and isn’t too plain to see. Now, if you wanted to name him Sebastian Besian Biller, I’d have to put my foot down.

Sebastian is fairly close to Besian, which is why I liked it for your family, in the first place.
Go with your gut. Sleep on it. Talk to family. Try saying the names a few times over every day and see which one you feel more comfortable saying.

Sebastian Kreshnick Biller sounds the best! I really like the idea of keeping his given name as a mn. Lovely way to honor his heritage!

I voted for Nicholas. Seely is wierd. Although, I have to say that I think it is terrible when people adopt children and change their first and/or middle names!

Most of the time, people do it when they’re babies. They’re their children, not someone else’s. Many times, depending on the situation, it’s not even the biological parents who name them, it’s the caregivers who give them names and they don’t mean anything. When you adopt an older child, some keep the name, while others change it a bit or let the children pick out their own names. It’s a brand new start.

I like Sebastian Kreshnick Biller or Owen Kreshnick Biller, these are 2 of my top boys’ names. I think Sebastian goes a little better in style with Kreshnick, plus there are more nn possibilities. But you can’t go wrong with these two, imo!
